| Aug. 14, 2014 boz6158 1 posts | Western National Tournament? Or ?... I have to question the logic of SSUSA. An Eastern team playing in a Western National tournament? The Eastern team winning a Western National Tournament? As a spectator I was thrown back by seeing this occur. Ok, I believe that the Western National team that came in second, does end up getting the opportunity to represent the West in the East/West National Championship game in Vegas, that's cool. But, had the East stayed and played in the East this wouldn't be an issue. I was also surprised to see the Eastern team take home the West Trophy, along with those nice jackets. Something smells fishy about this. Hey Props to Pope for winning the tournament, but Pope is from the East, not West. Come on now, can someone explain how this could happen? What is the logic here? Was is about the money? I can't for the life of me figure this out. What about the Western teams that took loses to Pope and got sent home? How is it a Western National with Eastern team playing in it? Does this mean Western teams can head East and play In their Eastern National? Does this really make sense? I heard there were only 2 teams in the Eastern National, ok, so, Pope makes it 3 teams, win that and play against the West, as it stands now Pope can't even play in that championship game in Vegas, what a waste. | Aug. 17, 2014 JimS Men's 60 12 posts | It's the Western National because the location of the tournament is in the western part of the country.Pope Transport is a team from Wisconsin which is generally referred to as the MidWest part of the country. The fact that they won the Western National but don't get to receive the rewards due the champion is a scandal to say the least. If a team chooses to enter the north, south, east, west or whereever tournament and wins then they should get everything the champion has coming because they earned it fair and square. Otherwise SSUSA needs to limit who can attend regional tournaments and right now there doesn't appear to be any limits in place. In the World of Senio Softball this is an atrocity and needs to be explained and corrected |
| Aug. 18, 2014 STL0 Men's 60 230 posts | I don't see why a team should not be allowed to play in whatever tournament that they care to. We have enough problems getting enough teams in tournaments, why limit it unnecessarily. It doesn't make sense to put any restrictions on who can play where. Having said that, if you went with the concept of only teams in specific areas could play in certain tournaments, you would have to define maps for regions otherwise it is arbitrary. |

REPRINT from a related thread on this topic ... "...Teams playing "out of region" in either the Eastern's or the Western's are ineligible for the USA National Championship games to prevent teams from potentially gaining an unfair seeding advantage in Las Vegas by picking which "National" event, with the lesser number of teams, to enter ... In 2013, Fairway Ford 80's (CA) went East and, in 2014, Pope Transport (WI) went West solely to compete in larger, not smaller brackets, and won those events ... Neither of those teams sought an unfair advantage for Las Vegas, but the policy is in place to prevent some other future team from maybe not being so honorable ... In both 2013 and 2014, the Managers of the teams playing "out of region" were advised of this policy in advance of entering the events ..." |
