Fairness in Ratings
Just pulled up info on Vegas. I see that Houston fire will play as a 60 Major after going undefeated in Reno as a Major. Also noticed that MBA Elite will also play as a 60 Major after winning the Western Nationals as a Major. We got moved up from AAA to Major two years ago for finishing 5th in Reno and a couple of teams who finished ahead of us did not get moved. I have appealed 3 times and have been denied all 3 times. George sat and watched our team play 3 different times this year at the Westerns and agreed at the time that he needed to re-evaluate our team. He asked me to e-mail him to remind him (I did) and to appeal again (I did). Nothing has happened. It is not only my feeling but the feeling of everyone that I discuss this with that SSUSA rating have no validity. It is a joke! There are other teams that have won tournaments that by SSUSA guidelines say are to be moved and nothing has happened. I have pointed this out to George many times and yet he does nothing. What's up with all this!

Might be they are so engrossed in what Scrap Iron team is going to show up for a tournament, they don't have time for you.

I have wondered if average team age shouldn't be factored into the ratings. It might help solve the AA problem. Say A 70 AAA team averages 73-to 74 years old-they are not going to compete with the 65s that just rolled up or a team of 70-71s-72s. Even though they might have competed at the AAA level the 1st 3 or 4 years-they will probably field batting practice that last year. Maybe that last year before 75s, they should go back to AA for one year. It is hard to rate teams that are in a large organiztion-never ending rosters and have a basic name but add a second name just to make people think they are different.

This discussion is related to when teams are splitting into 2 separate age groups for the next year. It seems logical that newer teams that move up will be "younger" than the current teams, but their playing ability, especially by defensive position will probably determine their success more than their average age. Starting new teams at AAA level allows each individual team to be moved later up or down based on team performance.

Guys, I have come up with a "Playing Format" for our senior softball that would eliminate associoations having to rate teams. I would post the idea during the off season, it is "THE 0257 PLAYING FORMAT", stay tune!!!!

Even then some states are still snow bound.

Back to my post which somehow has moved far off topic. Why is SSUSA not responding to this post with an explanation?

Because team rating issues are are handled confidentially in the Home Office and not publicly in a virtually unregulated, anonymous (including you) comment environment like a message board ...

SSUSA, That's a tacky response. Why didn't you just answer Chico's question? In an open, public forum....

Let me help get you started...
Houston Fire went undefeated in Reno in 60 Major but will remain in 60 Major because....

MBA Elite won the 60 Western Nationals which would normally move them up but will remain in 60 Major because....

Because ... The ONLY automatic rating increase for ANY team, other than Major+, results from winning either [1] the LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters Championships, [2] the SPA World Championships or [3] the ISA Senior World Series ... ALL other rating changes are based upon performance criteria review or the granting of a properly and formally submitted Rating Appeal ... The single most common public misconception is, undoubtedly, the mistaken belief that winning any TOC Qualifier, or the TOC itself, results in an automatic rating increase ... It does NOT ...

Oh, and the matter chico senior refers to remains a confidential matter raised by an anonymous poster ...

Thanks SSUSA

Some guys never take in the fact that some of competition at these tournaments (ie) Reno and Western Nationals. Many times their are not a lot teams in a bracket and the competition isn't that strong.
Why bump or punish a team for winning a 3 to 5 team tournament with weak competition. The question I would ask is how teams that either won Reno, Cal Cup or Westerns went on to win LV in the past years?

I do know that OH MY 50 won Reno and LV last year and were bumped.

Chico,

Let me try to add my perceived SSUSA logic wrt your inquiry about Houston Fire. I just looked at facts and data.

* they went 1-1 in seeding games, losing to MBA Elite 27-26, and beating N.
State Screen Print 17-15
* in bracket games where they went undefeated, they beat Top Gun 26-17,
beat NSSP 16-12, beat Enviro-Vac 14-13, and then beat Enviro-Vac in the
championship game 15-13.

Sure, they went undefeated, but the fact is...they didn't blow teams away. The scores would indicate that the game were all close. The fact that they won the tourney doesn't make them Major Plus.

I play 55 Major, and our biggest competition won the first two ring tournies of the year, and finished third at the SSUSA/LVSSA Southwest Championships. They're a very good Major team, but certainly not Major Plus

My point is that aside from what SSUSA has already stated, winning a major tourney doesn't constitute an automatic bump in rating.

Hope this sheds some light.

would like to add to this....in 2001 we started as a 50 aa team(what ya did back then...topgun shuttermart)...we didn't win anything of importance till july that year and that was just a qualifier..6-8 teams if i remember right....well we jumped to AAA b/c a team(topgun 2) wrote a letter to sacramento and said we needed to be AAA and they should be AA(they were promoted that year) as we beat them once or twice in non-sanction tourneys.....we had put our money in for the westerns that year(first year of them)only to be told we now had to play as AAA....we had no other qual tourneys to use to add people.....at first we told sacramento to pack sand...then relented b/c we would of been done for the year....well we went to the westerns and lo and behold we won...all close games...the other team didn't bother going but went to vegas that year as AA and runruled everyone to win it all....we did finish 2nd to the team we beat in the westerns.....so we did prove we were good enough and by the 1st of nov we were rated major.....AA to major in less then a year.....

2nd bump was with a team here in texas...we were a AA team that won our state tourney (5 teams)..and were immediately jumped to AAA...we never finished in the top half of any major tourney after that.....the TD is the one who pushed us up...he had a prol with us i guess.....

Correction to my post. Top Gun was not in Reno and therefore could not have been beaten. Houston Fire beat R&R 26-17 in the first bracket game.

really did you go back 13 years? I would have to think that once in awhile mistakes are made and things have had to improved. One time at Band Camp.
