| Oct. 8, 2014 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Vegas parksfields, applies to other events as well. LIGHTS Were the field lights used at night or not? If not, why not? I'd think a great amount of the players use them in the leagues they play in, I know we use them here. So that shouldn't be a factor. If they do not use them perhaps the games would\could be completed if they used them. Barring incidents like weather. |

Sounds like it's a antiquated system still being used. The lights should all be up in about 5 minutes or less. But Vegas has areas that haver revolving power cutbacks too, so that could be one part of the problem. I just wonder why more games weren't played at night to either make up time lost due to weather or as regular bracketing. |

Restrictions were: • SUNSET - League seven days a week on four of six fields beginning at 6:15 PM • ARROYO GRANDE / RUSSELL ROAD / DOS ESCUELAS - League Monday through Fridays beginning at 6:00 PM • BIG LEAGUE DREAMS - League Sunday through Friday on all six fields beginning at 6:00 PM (BLD did defer leagues on 10/03/14) A further complicating factor in Session #3 was another tournament promoter having sole access to DESERT BREEZE, DESERT BLOOM and RUSSELL ROAD all three days, making them unavailable to us ... We did play into the night at SHADOW ROCK, HOLLYWOOD, LORENZI and DOC ROMEO when required and we attempted to NOT play after dark for the 70's, 75's, 80's and 85's as a safety issue ... Take a peek at the Master Planning Grids and look for last game times by day ... Some of the venues with late play actually ended much later than scheduled ... |

Though for any age, it is usually better to play in the daylight time. Just depends on suns position relative to players and batter. With all the restrictions\caveats your stuck with (& agreed to) why stay there? Seems as though NSA has you by the ...err gonads. Time frame for event is just before Huntsman, perhaps you could negotiate a 'better' deal St George. Ok, I know you have a 'contract' you always use that, but it does eventually end as did the last one and ones before it. Then again, St G may not want their excellent fields used for 5 weeks in a row either. Hope you all made it back to Sac safely. |

Nv has another energy plant with output 5x that of Hoover. Where the power goes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoover_Dam I got that from a guy who lives in Vegas. don't know where don't really care but have known him for about 15 years. Could be, not black out areas as normally done in grids, but selective area type useage. I doubt they would do the casinos. |

ALL of the available complexes meeting tournament specifications as to fence distances that were made available to us were used, with one exception ... The Cheyenne Complex in N. Las Vegas could have been used but wasn't ... N. Las Vegas has almost completed a major renovation of the fields there, but the circumstances are a lot like last year at Sunset Park ... We chose not to go there this year until the facility renovation is complete ... Excluding last-game-of-the-day time slots where we could maybe have gone later into the night, we fit the 1,713 game schedule into the 1,720 game slot inventory ... |

| Oct. 9, 2014 LeeLee50 140 posts | Thank you Dave, but wouldn't it be better to schedule all these games with a little larger margin of error. As we all know games always fall behind and there is always some type of time delay. I know it is wasn't your fault for the weather but in the past 2 years are division hasn't even had the 5 game guarantee commitment completed. Last year it was a the number of teams or scheduling issue, this year it was a weather issue and then on top of the that are games were shorten to 4 and 5 innings. Although we never played in a 4 inning game but we did play in 5's. A 3 day tournament in LV to play 4 games. I am just giving you some of my observations, I would like to be part of the solution to make the tournament even better. thank you |
| Oct. 9, 2014 4040club Men's 75 31 posts | Played under the lights at Sunset Park. 70AA game started at 5:00 with sun in batters eyes, 3rd inning (?) lights came on, not good for old guys with glasses. Field lights not bad but lights from other fields were lower. We lost in last inning so maybe this is sour grapes but this was the only game in our division played under the lights. Seems like with only 4 teams in the division this could have been avoided. Also, with all the emphasis on safety, why when we get to the biggest and most expensive tourney of the year we are playing without the safety base at first ( at Sunset Park) and the umpires instructions concerning running to first vary game to game? Otherwise, great job with the tourney .... Of course, we won so..... |
