Dave "Duke" Dukelow player/manager Roberts/Pope 60 major...passes today
Its a tough day and its hard to post this, but Duke, the manager, player and supporter of our team and of senior softball passed away today at 62. Duke had been diagnosed with a severe rare form of cancer a few months ago and today had a heart attack during treatment and passed away.
He was the one who formed the Robert's Construction (now Pope Transport)12 years ago or so, and was one of the most well known senior players. He was a great player, manager and an even better person...he loved socializing and meeting new opponents who quickly became tight friends. The same team he started with, still had most of its original members playing on the current Pope Transport 60 major/major plus team. It was testimony to the outstanding way he treated people and how he made softball more than just the game..he helped create a lifetime connection of friends and fun travel. If you met Duke, then you surely met his wife Peggy, who was a partner in all they did to promote the sport and team. Duke made it mandatory to tailgate at the end of each game in the parking lot and opposing players often stopped by and tipped one at Dukes invitation. It made for a very social atmosphere and created friendship and good will with all teams, umpires and fans.
I can't express fully in words what he meant to us and the senior community..including his friendship with Fran and Dave...and their entire organization.. but thought Id pass this on so all of you who knew him, might remember the big man with a smile.

To Duke's Family and the family of Pope 60's. On behalf of the Top Gun Senior Softball Association and the Top Gun 60's team, our thoughts and prays go out to you at this time of reflextion. Our Top Gun 60's team has had the pleasure of competing against Duke and his team as Roberts Construction and as Pope 60's (most recently at the Western Nationals). A class team led by a class individual. May the team continue with the memories and friendship that "Duke" nurtured the past 12 years. Look forward to seeing you on the field. Kevin Evans, Top Gun Softball.

Fran and I were devastated to hear the news of the passing of a true icon of Senior Softball. Duke was the ideal manager, player and gentleman, making any day spent with him better than it would have been without. To Peg and the boys, and all of his friends and extended softball family, we wish you nothing but the best under the tough current circumstances. You are in our prayers, along with the constant great, and fun, memories of a "Life Well Lived" ... Dave and "Frannie" Dowell

Bogie and all the Pope/Roberts players and family sorry to hear of Duke's passing - Pope/Robert's and our team the Fossils have played many games and always enjoyed playing you guys. Duke was a great guy and we tipped a few cold ones together and told stories - we know it has been tough on everyone and I justed wanted to wish Peg and everyone associated with Duke our best.

Bogie, Sorry to hear of the passing of Dave. Please forward my condolences to his family and teammates. We enjoyed playing many games against each other when I was in Chicago. He was always a gentleman to me and to our team. Every time I hear this kind of news it makes me appreciate the time we all have together on the field--win or lose.
