| Jan. 6, 2015 bkb555 301 posts | Do you use senior bats in non tournament games/leagues? In our senior leagues we do NOT use senior bats at all.....I was wondering how many guys out there use senior bats for their leagues and if it is a good or bad idea to use them in non-tournament situations.....obviously, there are all talent levels at local leagues and if because of this fact, safety is top priority for not using these bats......in reality, out tourney team plays 3-4 tourneys a season and occasional end of season BP and exhibitions but otherwise, we use U-trip bats or any bat of your choice not senior approved....thanks |

| Jan. 6, 2015 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | We use senior bats in all of our league games but with restrictions: 50-60 league: use of senior bats except on fields with closer fences and rec department penalties for hitting outside the park. Pick-up team leagues (ages 50 - 90): senior bats for only women and over 74 Tournament teams league: senior bats for 60 and over We do not allow senior bats for pre-game batting practice by under 75 men in the pick-up team leagues because of the crowded fields during the batting practice. Our twice-a-week batting practice-only sessions allow any bats, including senior (or original Ultra for that matter) We have had a very good safety record with these rules and no unhappy players. |
| Jan. 6, 2015 Tim Millette 615 posts | There are a couple day time city senior leagues in our area that allow senior bats... But the night time city senior leagues around here do not allow senior bats. |
| Jan. 7, 2015 OZ40 549 posts | I know of 3 senior leagues here in Michigan (all in the Detroit tri-county area) that allow senior bats. One of the leagues which is the youngest at age 50 and over has a pitching screen optional rule. 2 of the leagues play in the morning and the other at night. |
| Jan. 7, 2015 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | In our league the National League allows 1.21 bats, the American, Masters and Legends only allow ASA bats. All leagues use the screen. In the American there are a few suspected altered bats. |
| Jan. 7, 2015 Fred S Men's 85 297 posts | We use ASA bats only. General consensus (Even from Tournament Players) that it makes for a better game. I use my ASA bats in tournaments also. The only thing a senior bat does for me is turn my singles/doubles into outs. |

| Jan. 7, 2015 garyheifner 649 posts | Made the move to Dudley balanced-love them. Broke both of them in and now use them only for tournament games. If one does ever go down, I have a 2nd ready to go. One of my Ultras had a very small crack, some gorilla glue and 3 wraps of duct tape and I got a warm weather "batting practice" bat. Found a centurion with a small crack in the garbage at a tournament, more glue and tape and I got a cold weather "batting practice" bat. My other Ultra is in good shape and now use it in a dlb header league once a week from May through Oct. P.S. I have been doing the bat repair thing for years and can usually get anywhere from 3 to 12+ tournaments of "batting practice" before they go to bat heaven. This may sound nuts to some of you younger guys. Just wait until your 70 and every retirement $ counts. |
| Jan. 7, 2015 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | our senior league is run by ASA senior rules except for the ball(for bats we use senior bats per ASA rules)...we use the 52-300 ball and have no problems what so ever.....no whining or anything about the ball... we just play and have fun..... gary like your idea of the repairs....might have to check into that myself as i have a few broke bats here....... |

| Jan. 9, 2015 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | ju25...better be careful with that ball if your playing in cool weather 65-70 degrees or lower as that ball hardens up and will be a bat breaker...that is what the 40 C.O.R. tells you....also compression goes up when the temps go down.....i would rather hit the 52-300 that we hit in our league..also when it get hots 80-85 degrees and higher that ball will soften upon ya and is like hitting a sock.... |
| Jan. 9, 2015 bkb555 301 posts | so for the guys who use a screen and senior bats, what is the rule when you play...is it in play, an out, a dead ball......???....is there a homerun rule? we are moving to a different field and the fences are 15-25 feet farther than our past fields.....we used U-Trip bats and there were occasional HR's....with the fences that much farther, I doubt the HR rule will even come into play unless there is a 25 mph wind blowing out (it hardly does that).....any input will help us decide...thanks for the help |
| Jan. 10, 2015 OZ40 549 posts | Monday night Warren, MI 50+ league: Batted ball hits the screen = dead ball out, if a team chooses not to use the screen and a batted ball travels to or through the pitchers box, same result. |
| Jan. 10, 2015 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | In our league if a batted ball hits the screen it is a strike. The home run rule is 3 and one up with a walk before one up. Talk is that the hr limits will be increased this spring. Reasoning is that it will speed up play. I'm ok with that as the walks only slowed the game. |

| Jan. 11, 2015 AJC Men's 60 217 posts | In Redwood City we can use ASA bats only in senior night league where it is open for all age groups 50 and over. The 75 and older men and the few women that play can use senior bats. They just started using a screen this last year. We use a 1-1 count and a 52-300 ball. |

| Jan. 13, 2015 bkb555 301 posts | thanks for all the input guys....we will NOT be using senior bats in our league this year......probably more of a safety concern than anything...oh well, lots of gappers for inside the park HR's and lots of extra bases....outfielders, get your running shoes on and cut-off men, get ready for long relay throws......loosen up those legs and arms, because there will be lots of long runs and throws this season |
