TOC WOUNDED WARRIOR All-STAR GAME THRILLER
The third edition of the SSUSA All-Stars vs. the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team at the TOC was a thriller Saturday night at the Auburndale Sports Complex. In the top of the 9th inning, the SSUSA All Stars mounted an impressive 19-run rally to overcome a huge deficit, taking a 39-36 lead into the WWAST's bottom of the 9th. In front of an estimated 800-1,000 fans, strongly supporting the Wounded Warriors, they came roaring back. Mike Aevermann, the lone SSUSA All-Star filling out the WWAST squad, led of with a tape-measure HR to straightaway center. Dennis Turner of Louisville Slugger, Greg Reynolds (U.S. Army/Iraq) and Leonard Anderson (U.S. Air Force/Afghanistan) then strung together consecutive singles to score one more. To the delight of the crowd, Matt Kinsey (U.S. Army/Afghanistan) launched a game-winning 3-run HR to left to account for the final score of 41-39.

The Wounded Warrior appearance was, once again, a high point of the 2015 Tournament of Champions. The team appeared as Guests of Honor at the TOC Banquet on Friday night, being introduced to a rousing standing ovation. General Manager David Van Sleet (U.S. Army/Vietnam) and another of his hero players addressed the crowd about their experiences, which preceded the first-ever fund raiser benefit auction. A special edition Louisville Slugger Wounded Warrior bat, signed by the entire team, was won by the successful bidder for an additional $7,000 to benefit the program. SSUSA is honored to be able to host the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, and arrangements have already been made for a return appearance at the 2016 TOC.

thanks for an absolutely fabulous time. must add-- in true dramatic style, that final homerun was off the scoreboard! Also, a fantastic catch by Warrior's left fielder. A.mazing men as well as athletes.
