TOC follow up
The only bad part, beside the banquet, I had to go back to Ma in the middle of a snow storm.

GREAT WEEK OF SOFTBALL

Sure, there were a couple of glitches with the banquet, but I have never tried hosting a dinner for 2,100 people. Until I try pulling something of that size off, I won't say not a negative word about it.

Those in attendance heard from some truly inspirational people who have given so much for this country, and battle on.

If my meal was delayed a few minutes, I can look past that with ease.

THANK YOU SSUSA,
THANK YOU WOUNDED WARRIORS,
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER SERVED.

Tim

Our only complaint, if you want to call it that, is the facility. They should have told us it wasn't heated and we could have dressed accordingly.

Your right it is a mammoth task to run something that big and hats off to the people who had to do it.

This was our second year at the TOC and all I can say is Wow - it just keeps getting better. First on behalf of the Homer Lovers I'd like to say thank you to Terry, Fran, Dave, and all the SSUSA staff for putting on a fantastic event! The competition was stiff and though there were some blow outs when it came down to it there were a bunch of one run games in the bracket. What more can you ask for? (Other than maybe a two out of three split when there are only two teams in your division) We had great weather overall, got to see friends we hadn't seen in a year and had the opportunity to make new friendships with people that share our passion for this great game. What a fantastic group of people we got to meet from DLB, Team 1 Miken and the Mid Atlantic Elite 40 teams. Class acts all the way around! Now time to get to work to qualify for next year...

Thanks,
Brad Geil

Even though our team did not do well in the TOC, we had a great time playing the game we love in perfect softball weather. Our team want to congratulate the SSUSA staff for running a great tourney and hope we can qualify again for next year. We enjoyed the banquet and especially listening to the heroic acts of the Wounded Warriors. They are truly heroes. If you have a chance to watch them play softball....they are amazing.

Thanks again SSUSA,

Played in the TOC last week and was totally dissatisfied with the way it was run in the 60 platinum division.
There was only 1 60 major+ entered and 3 Major teams.
In the 65 teams there was only 1 Major+ team entered. Those 2 teams are guaranteed rings. Why didn't they play round robin games then play each other the best two out of three?
We were the 2nd highest finishing 60 Major team yet we were told that we finished 3rd, thanks for coming. They told us Saturday afternoon around 4-5 that they were moving games up 1 1/2 hrs. Sunday morning. We were given no reason why, just told to be there to play at 8am. They should tell people that they may have to play teams out of there bracket before they take the money.
People spend a lot money to do this, all we ask is to be informed.
The deadline for this tourney was 1-5-15,I called on the 9th to see how many teams there were in our bracket. I was told they didn't know they were still calling people. Why have a deadline???
Won't be back.

hey Dix-- you should be upset with teams in your division for NOT going. The wounded Warrior game & all the other events sponsored by SSUSA made my trip worth while, despite not finishing well. guess not all can see the forest for the trees.

What if .... The TOC tourney has representatives from each specific qualifying tourney ? Say the tourney winner declines to attend the TOC by a set deadline (say 1 month after the tourney win), ask the 2nd place team ? And so on ?
Seriously, it would be a drag to qualify, travel and pretty much sit.
It's just a thought. It may keep more interest.
PS: The Wounded Warriors game sounds like a class event. Thank you for doing that.

E6 That is a good idea some team's qualify from a one team qualifier (OKI)in the 50's has no one to play a lot of time's Hollis show's up every year to the TOC no matter where they have 20 team's or no team's to play . Well we enjoyed the battles with them in the past & are looking forward to squaring off with them in the future.

How many teams qualified for TOC in 2014? There were 115 teams that played in TOC, what percentage of the total number of teams who qualified played in TOC? The last 2014 TOC qualifier was Las Vegas in Oct., that is a (4) months break before TOC. What about scheduling
the TOC before any next years qualifier be played (Winter Nationals and Winter World).

so your telling me there were 115 tournaments that had TOC qualifying...as that is the condition to be able to go to it right....winning one of those.....also i'm with capt kirk that it should be held before any of the next years tourney's are held(nov-dec time frame)......

Mad Dog, there were 115 teams that played in TOC, but there more teams than that who had qualified for TOC.

I wish we could have had enough to go this year, we planned on it up until the last few weeks of the deadline.

I understand SSUSA has a contract to hold it at the same time for a few years yet.

But what if it was held during the week after the Vegas nationals? People could just have an extended vacation and not have to plan travel twice.

Mad Dog, SSUSA has 22 tournaments that are TOC qualifier, times 8 age groups, times 4 divisions just in the men's giving you over 500 teams that qualified, yes some multiple times and sometimes not all age groups had teams but, my guess that at least 400 teams could go but only 115(not all men's teams) did, why??? timing being the biggest reason but it is still a must go to Tournament if you get the chance. I'm hoping to get to go again next year.

A quick calculation with a +/- of 25 teams, I calculated
that they were 325 (2014) TOC qualified teams that were eligible to play in the Tournament of Champions.
Capt Kirk
Note: SSUSA has a 2014 list of teams who qualified for
TOC, but I was not able to find it on the website.

There were 259 teams qualified for SSUSA's 2015 Original Tournament of Champions ... A tournament-record 115 teams (44.4% of eligible) played in this year's TOC ... For comparison, there were approximately 1,200 qualified teams for the 2014 LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters Championships in Las Vegas, with the tournament-record 506 teams attending representing about 42.2% of those eligible ... We are very pleased with the turnout for this special event to honor and determine on the field of play the Champions of Champions ...

Here's the link to the 2015 TOC Qualified teams list ...

The percentage of teams not attending doesn't necessarily mean those teams don't want to attend or that they dislike the tournament. Speaking as a northerner, I can't think of better reasons to head to Florida then there two:
1. February in Michigan

2. Softball

From my northern point of view the worst part of this tournament is the plane ride home knowing full well that I have wait months for weather of the type I'm leaving behind.

Our team for the most part found good deals on airfares but maybe a parternership between SSUSA and sites such as Travelocity or Expedia offering group rates on planes and cars would be an avenue to explore. 115 or more teams plus family members should generate some pretty good bargaining power.

Phoenix or Fort Myers would seem to be an ideal location for TOC, alternate between locations. Instead having a winter world and a winter national qualifier, one year have TOC in Phoenix and the following year have TOC in Ft. Myers. Having the TOC in November would allow more TOC qualified teams to play.

Does anyone know whom was the vendor in the B hangar at the banquet that had the team jersey drawing? I got a call from a Kentucky number as I left the facility saying I had won jerseys for my team. He had my email and was going to send me all the info. He never did. I have called that 270 number numerous times and only gotten generic voice box message. Too bad I don't remember his name. Any help here?
