Best Hitters in Senior Softball
I have been to some of the best senior tournaments in the past 2 years. Vegas, Dalton, Ohio and Florida and have witnessed some great hitters. Just interested in who others consider to be some of the best hitters at that level. I love the game and appreciate watching these older gentlemen .

Maybe I am a little biased because he is my teammate but Ron Parnell is probably the best hitter in senior softball. He's unselfish hits for power and average and will hit a backside ground ball if the situation calls for it. The guy works as hard as anyone being prepared for every tournament we play.

Darrell Beeler hits the ball harder and farther than anyone I have seen in senior softball.

And finally I would put several of my Sommerville teammates to include Paul Sallow, Mike Reed, Ronni Salcedo, Chito Alvidrez, John Heller, and Brian Hausner, as some of the top senior softball hitters right now.

There is a reason we went 49-3 last year.

One of the BEST pure hitters in all of senior softball. Power whenever its needed. Base hitter whenever its necessary. Extremely competitive and confident. No brag just fact !

Ron Parnell's work ethic is second to none. This is one reason he owned practically every World Series hitting record at one time (as a younger man).
But more important than his hitting is the fact that he is an awesome leader. The teams that he plays for usually end up winning... he also attracts other great players.
While some guys play to be a star, Ron plays to win... there are hitters and there are players. Many seniors tend to be wowed by hitters... I prefer to watch guys who care more about winning.

I may be biased but
My teammate Don Clatterbough has got to be in any discussion of great hitters. Definitely one of the toughest outs that I have ever played with or against.

Don't know his name, but that big lefty on the Kamikazes, he hits for power, and sprays the ball all over the field and doesn't seemed phased the count or how many outs there are. I watched him play in two games during the TOC and neither team could get him out. He hit two grand slams in those two games and when they were out of HR's, he was hitting P-Rods all over the field. I should have asked him his name for this discussion.

Count me in the club of being biased but in my 7 years of playing 50 major plus 4 names stick (no pun) out in my mind. OKI teammates Vern Hensley and Carl Underwood. Former teammates (now on DLB) Bob Woldyke and Paul Stanley.
Another one that stands out is former Mavericks leadoff hitter Gary Springer. He arguably has the best bat control I've ever witnessed.

Since everyone is admitting to bias, let me join in and suggest the boys from Indiana, one with us and one not, both formerly of the fair city of Columbus, current home of the ISA Senior World Series. This would be Steve Imlay and Lou Giovanini. Now we have a lot of other good hitters from here, but these two are/were kind and selfless. Neither of these gentlemen would ever tell you that they were great in any way, but they are two of the nicest men that I have ever met, both on and off the field.

I'm going to assume that hitting in the context of this thread would mean hitting for average. If that's the case then Stick has a spot on that list. I couldn't think of too many others guys I want up when I need a hit to score the winning run with 2 outs. Sticky's made a career (a hall of fame career) out of singles and doubles. If you're talking homeruns though I go with Wally too.

A few guys from the Southeast that deserve recognition:

Patty Mac, have known him for 30 years and he has always played at the highest level. Combination of power and high batting average. Works hard on and off the field.

Bruce Fairchild, another guy with power that hits for an average. Not as big as a lot of HR hitters but can bust it.

Mike Jackson, Dodger and Mike Langford can all get it done.

Thanks Perl! You are so right about Mike Langford! Another that hasn't been mentioned is Caleb Rabenold. He has power down both lines, massive power and also hits for a high average.

In the last 3 years I have been blessed with the chance to meet and play against or with several men mentioned above. Steve Imlay is the best hitter I ever played on the same team with, and Art Tressler consistently hits over .800 with power and nobody notices. Bruce has one sweet swing and always crushes the ball. Patty Mac, Clatta, and Davey Reed, are tremendous also. Parnell was great when I played against him when he was younger, too. It has been fun!

Ron Parnell gets my vote. Hard working, great team guy. What I was impressed by the most is he is a very humble guy. Don't know him. Seen him play. Was watching one of Sunnyvale games in Vegas. In between games we started talking. I am a LS guy. He took the time to pull out the Hyper Z from his bag. Talked with me about the bat and other things. Great guy.

Had the pleasure to play with John Heller. Same thing. Works at the game. Humble. Will take the time to talk with anyone.

Both are great hitters, fielders, and are great people to talk with.

Stick watch that lead off hitter from windy city not only can he place it as good or better than Gary he can also go yard. Our lead off hitter Leo Osterday is a tough out you kno what he's going to do but he still get's on 75 to 80% of the time. George Robert's has a lot of pop in his bat but also can hit the ball anywhere he wants.

Best hitter in my home is my wife. Last night, I did not even see the right cross and then she followed it up with a left hook. Thank God she does not read this board.

Imlay is as good as it gets. He hit 625 in one tourney and I thought he was going to have to be put on suicide watch. The guy works at his craft as hard as anybody and at 66 is a premier hitter.

In my opinion Dave Masoian of Michigan aka "Stick" is on of the best hitters out there. Can hit to all fields and has good pop. Not a great HR hitter but will hit for average all the time.

Al Byersdorf from the Monster 50 major team is one of the best hitters out there.
He hits for a very high average and can hit it out just about anytime he wants to. He is one of the hardest outs I have ever pitched to.
He has had multiple tournaments (not games) that he made zero or one out for the whole tournament.
Just my 2 cents worth
PS, This is after he plays outfield most of the time.

Chuck, Oz I certainly admire the intelligence you both have!! lol In reality, I'm just a little bloop in a huge sea of bangers. Playing 50 major plus for 7 years I've had the pleasure of sitting in the front row watching an aerial display. You could take 3 or 4 hitters from each 50 major plus team and arguably make a case for them being the best. And I've seen some strong major players as well.
Ain't senior softball great?
