It Seemed Like a Good Idea At The Time
Sometime in 1970, Vietnam, 100 miles south of Cam Ranh Bay. I and a few others were eating our c-rations at midday at Firebase Trooper, C Troop, 2/1 Cavalry. It wasn't the rainy season. We had not bathed in a couple of weeks; suddenly a light shower blew over. We all looked at one another and seemed to have the same idea. We ran for soap in our hootches, stripped and lathered up. THEN IT QUIT RAINING!! I took my last canteen of water, poured it in my steel pot and removed the soap. A trailer with potable water did not come for 2 days. Lesson learned!

Neck10, yes, I am back in Indy. Your guys played really hard, and you should be very proud of them. It just was not an Indiana weekend.

Lefty, while I was rooting for the Indiana teams, I was working at Auburndale. I wish that I had gotten to see you again. You never know; your team might have the Brickyard on their schedule this year. Hope to catch up with you soon.

Never want to let a chance to say THANK YOU to you guys and girls who served in Vietnam. Your treatment upon returning is something I'm very ashamed of. So glad finally you are now recognized for your service. Lost my best friend over there. Didn't have to go myself(got classified 4F trying to play ball), but I think of my friend and those of you who served everyday! My GOD bless you for your service.

Thank you to all Veterans for your service. It is a positive that Vietnam Veterans can now share with us. They were treated so badly for so long. Thank you, Southpaw, for sharing this. I hope others will follow because we need to hear those stories to keep them from being forgotten. If you are in Indy, our war memorial is supposed to be one of a kind. They also offer no cost funeral facility services for Veterans if you know anyone in need. Let me know if you need any information about it. The Shrine room upstairs is probably one of the best kept secrets in Indy and will touch all inspirationally. There is also a Vietnam Cobra helicopter downstairs in the museum. We must never forget our Veterans and their service to our country.

Neck10, sorry, I do not have Mike's number. I have about 5 inches of snow here, but my county is not well known for snow removal or road maintenance. 60s are Thursday and Friday at the Brickyard because the 50s have increased so much each year, and we played about 15 to 16 hours a day last year on the weekend.

Neck10, I am glad that he got in touch with you. If you have any contact information for that league, let me know, and we can work to get them added to the Leagues list. I also need to work on Indiana because there is a new league trying to start up in northern Indiana, and one of the leagues listed no longer exists.
