Player in Houston
Looking to join a senior team that does not travel much. Mainly, I rather travel in Texas, but could make the big tourney in Las Vegas. I am 55 and live in Houston Area. I play outfield, Pitch, Catch, 1st and 2nd base. I am not a power hitter but can hit to left or right field when I want to. But since I am new to Seniors (been playing with the young folk for 26 years), I would prefer to play AA or AAA, until I can figure out how I compare to players my age. email dancerclown@msn.com

Are you playing senior ball in Houston? I've not played but was told its not that competitive. I too was wondering how I would stack up against my age. Playing field of dreams in league city on April 25. You playing now. I live in Conroe and have a league team there I play in weekly.

JB77301 the league JR posted is good, I played with them once, but they are located on SW side of town. I am playing Senior league in Baytown (not much better for you). The Baytown Senor league plays double headers on Mondays, which I like. The senior league in Baytown is not all that competitive, but then again I am judging it from playing against 20 and 30 year olds.

The park you mention on April 25th is call Big League Dreams. To me it is the best ball park in Houston. Artificial infield which makes them virtually never rain out. The infield does have a high bounce on ground balls. You can't hit a pitcher either, if line drive through the pitchers box, then it is an out.

Yea I've played in that one and the one in Palm Springs. Yes they are nice parks. I played in the B state tourney in Baytown a few years back. Keep me in mind if you're looking to get that team together. Been to the web site and spoke with the president. When I told him I was hitting home runs over 315 off 52/300 he sounded shocked that's why I'm not sure if its where I need to be right now. Not much on ego buildind or trying to impress anymore just love playing competitive ball.

JB, if you are a right-handed hitter, the ball does not fly out at Bayland on Field 2 unless you are a dead pull hitter. Played there 8 years and the league is excellent and organized (draft) by skill levels. The only knock is that they play single games twice weekly. BUT they do have batting practice before the first game each week and, if teams are short-handed, they have a procedure in place to allow pick-ups to play. HCSSL is a very fun, competitive league.

Double L thanks. I spoke to the league president and he did tell me those things. I can pull the ball or place the ball to right even hit deep to right. I used to hit alot of home runs but I quit playing for awhile(5yrs) after my divorce. Just now getting my swing back and the ball is flying again. Feels good out hitting the young'uns sometimes. I would like to play in some senior tourneys though. Seems 35& over is my only bet for now. I would love to hit the ultra ll again.

JB, Are you only interested in playing league or tournament ball? There are some good senior tournament teams from Houston. We have a team out of Austin that has several Houston area players on it.
