Pioneer park
Well it looks as if we have been moved from Hunter to Pioneer park in Mesquite. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Is there also a baseball field that will be utilized there?

The two facilities are very similar, the primary exception being that Pioneer Park is all dirt/grass and Hunter Park has infield dirt/outfield artificial turf. Each facility has a larger field (#3 at both). Outfield fence distances at Hunter Park are LF Line: 350'/CF: 395'/RF Line: 335'. At Pioneer Park those distances are LF Line: 335'/CF: 380'/RF Line: 335'. The parks are less than a mile apart.

Both are in excellent condition and great places to play softball, unless you get stuck on the baseball fields........................

That is where they should play the Major plus division games.

Played a lot of games on the baseball field prior to Senior ball and quite a few balls got hit out of that park. It is a lot of ground to cover.

Mario, there is only one Major+ team in this session, pretty easy to schedule that!

Don't feel bad we were told we would play in mesquite(50's) when we signed up then low and behold we get stuck in st. george and no rooms in st george as of friday nite, thanks senior softball. All the guys made reservations in mesquite now we get the approx 60 plus mile or so round trip for 3 days. First and last time I play in this tournament. I looked at the fields up there on google earth and there doesnt look like there is enough parking, am I right, do we need to stake a claim to a spot thursday nite for the weekend?....How about some gas money SSUSA?

No need to multi-post nick, I saw the first one ... A few quick comments ... Nobody at SSUSA told you where the 50's were playing at the time (or before) your team entered ... I wrote the schedule and made the initial field assignment determination at about dawn on Monday, six days after the entry deadline ... The first anyone in the office knew was later that morning ...

The drive from Mesquite is a majestic and easy drive ... Ask someone about the "back way" to/from Mesquite if you are interested in an even more beautiful (and shorter) route ... I have been a Field Director at The Canyons on several occasions and always stay in Mesquite, by choice ...

The Canyons Complex is one of the top five dirt and grass facilities in the nation (ask around to confirm) ... The 50's weren't downgraded and. in fact, got the prime field assignment ...

The Canyons Complex main parking lot is at the SE corner of the complex and has 152 parking stalls ... There are also additional smaller lots at the north and northeast sides ... Suggest car-pooling if gas prices are a concern ... Good luck!

In my opinion, this is a lot of concern about basically nothing. I've played on Scrap Iron teams for many years in Mesquite including a number of games on the baseball fields. I'm playing 70s this year and our second round robin game is on the baseball field at Pioneer now. We were scheduled at Hunter but things changed so we're now at Pioneer.

If you're playing in St. George you should be SAVING money if you're staying in Mesquite because the rooms are way cheaper in Mesquite so you should have plenty of gas money. Just remember the hour time difference.

In another post along these same lines, Dave Dowell indicates they may expand the 65 to 80 session to St. George more next year. If so, that could be the avenue to not play on the baseball fields in Mesquite, at least for the 70s and above.

Just a suggestion. See you in Mesquite Tuesday morning...Greg Broeckelman, Scrap Iron 70s Legacy team

I agree with Brock. IMO the teams playing in St. George got the better of it. Complex is one of the finest you will ever play, no baseball fields and the drive isn't a big deal.

Nickname I noticed that you play in the 50s not a far distance from young boy ball.
All young boy ball does is complain about fields, umpires and driving distance. Young boy ball wants the Motel at the back of the parking lot. Try Atlanta sometimes the field is 4 miles away but takes 45 minutes to get there because of traffic. Give me the drive from Mesquite to St George any day. Beautiful drive and you more than likely just saved abourt $120.00 on Motel rooms by staying in Meaquite

The Snow Canyon Softball Complex in St. G gets used year round and there's no turf fields. Fields 6&7 are used just about year round. For about a month prior to the Huntman's Games, the complex is shut down. I'm thinking any large complex around the country that is in great condition for all the usage should be congratulated.
