April 3, 2015 cuda65 69 posts | Fair of foul, I need help In adult ASA play, not senior but it may apply. Batter hits a ground ball that hits in foul territory first then hits a pebble and goes into fair territory and passes the bag in fair territory. Is this a fair or foul ball? Stumped in deep south Texas. |

April 3, 2015 Devil Dog 1 posts | Cuda65...in the scenario that you have provided...the correct ruling would be a fair ball. As long as the ball was deflected/redirected back into fair territory by anything that is natural to the ground (i.e. rock, pebble. tree limb) and not foreign (i.e. sprinkler head, concrete, fencing, equipment), and provided the redirected ball, passes back into fair territory PRIOR to the front edge of the base (either 1st or 3rd), then the correct ruling that would be a fair ball. This would be a "judgement call" and would not be protestable based on the umpire(s) ruling. Hope this helps! Happy Good Friday to all! |

April 3, 2015 cuda65 69 posts | Thanks Devil Dog. My question then is why would it be an umpires judgment call when in fact, it hit foul and went by the base in fair territory. Where is his judgment involved if it clearly went by the base. I understand your explanation, if it were really close on passing inside or outside the bag. Thanks again. This forum is the best because you have so many experienced individuals out there. Happy Easter to all. |
