Broken bat - coincidence or legit reason?
- I am no physics major so I am not sure if this is coincidence or fact. I have owned hundreds of bats over the 30+ years of softball and have never broken a knob off the bat. I use a standard grip with a dropped pinky finger off the bat. This year I tried tinkering around with a grip that resembled more of the knob in the palm of my hand and dropped the ring and pinky finger off. On my first round of BP - Presto! bat cracks right at the knob in my palm. Is this just a coincidence or was the bat under more stress using this grip? - Not trying to be funny but was wondering if a particular grip could lead bats to break. Bat was a year old but hardly used and lost the receipt so I guess I am out of luck.

SOB, it's not your grip. There has been quite a few bats from various companies that have had issues with the knob coming off. If you have a receipt for the bat, you can try and get a replacement for it. Otherwise you can epoxy it with 2 part marine epoxy.

Do a search here for knobs breaking on here and other sites, see if whatever make is mentioned is same as yours. And as mentioned above me, there have been a rash of them the last couple of years and different brands.
