April 29, 2015 Pahoa Boy 1 posts | obstructed base We had a problem with a call at Saturdays game. Runner on first ran to second and on to third when ball was hit to left field. The second baseman obstructed the plate and the runner made contact with him and did not touch the bag. He was called out and there was much controversy about the call. Please help. !. if there is an obstructed second base can the runner move on to third without touching the bag? |

But the rule 10 of ASA does say The plate umpire shall have the authority to make decisions on any situation not specifically covered in the rules.. This is not covered so you would have to live with his decision. I would hope since the obstruction caused the player to miss the base, that the umpire would call him safe. If not I would have my second baseman to obstruct every runner that came by and get some easy outs. |
