April 30, 2015 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Ranken "Tater" Johnson passed I received this today: Hello this Rankin's youngest daughter Kimberly. I am sorry to take so long to tell you some bad news about my dad. In November he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer that had spread to his spine and neck. He tried to fight for several weeks but unfortunately he lost his battle on January 27th, 2015. I don't even know who all on his contact list on this email I should be telling, but I found you as all peoples he was in contact with in the past and he keep emails from you all. Sorry for the bad news. Thank you for being my dad's friend. Sincerely, Kimberly Johnson Bigelow |
April 30, 2015 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | I never met Tater but exchanged emails and chatted through the "Mohr Board". I believe he lived in Pennsylvania. He was probably the first softball player that I had communicated with through the internet. I am touched by her email and sadden by her and our loss. |

May 11, 2015 stick8 1991 posts | Even though I don't know Ranker and Kimberly reading this hits home for me because in March my dad passed away in a similar fashion that Kimberly's dad did. Kimberly, as you may well know by now, right after a loved one passes you have good days and bad days. I'm very sorry for your loss and I pray that you can look back and remember fond memories of thew times you had with your dad like I do with mine. |
May 12, 2015 B94 Men's 50 138 posts | Not sure how I missed the initial posting of this but let me say that I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Tater, he will definetly be missed. Bruce, similar to yourself I met Tater on the Mohr board what seems like so long ago. Back then we chatted a bunch about softball specific training exercises on the board and on the phone a few times. Though I never got the opportunity to meet him in person I fondly remember those chats and how I could hear the passion in his voice when we spoke about the game and his willingness to impart his knowledge to those who wanted to listen. Just those memories have brought a smile to my face today. Thoughts and prayers to Kimberly and the family. |
