Still Trying To Live It Down!
In May, 2013, I spent a week in a local Hospital with acute pancreatitis after gallbladder surgery. I was unconscious pretty much for 6 days; but, occasionally I would awaken for a minute or two, then pass out again.

Two days in, I awoke for the first time, whispered to my wife: "Darling, I love to play senior softball", then immediately passed out again! Thankfully, I do have an understanding wife, but she does remind me occasionally!!

Anyone else care to share? Please, no worse than PG-13!

Glad you survived-Southpaw. My memory is suffering badly now (maybe way too many concussions in sports when I was younger)-I have met so many people in the last 4 years in my business and across the country in senior softball that I am overwhelmed and forgetting way too many of them. It is hugely embarrassing at times. I even have forgotten names of guys I played with long ago. And, I hadn't seen my ex-wife of 20 years for 10 years and saw her a few months ago, and it actually took a minute or so to realize who she was. Whew! To all of those that I have done that to, I am sorry.

Webbie, I think we all understand (especially men) that faces are still familiar, but names quickly escape us. So, no need to apologize, well, except maybe your ex!!

Bob, I lose 4-6 players every year and get new recruits. It takes about 2 tourneys before I remember everyone.

My wife and I were entering Walmart recently; we met a couple exiting. They initiated a conversation which lasted about 30 minutes. When they left, I asked my wife: "Who were those people?". To which she replied: "I thought you knew them!".

Thanks for you well-wishes.

Steve, I'm glad you are still around! You're one of the "good" guys in senior softball.

Bruce, I am kind of glad that you're watching this thread. I have to admit, to my eternal embarrassment, that when I saw you out of uniform 2 years ago at Worlds I did not recognize you for a while until we talked.it does get frustrating.

Ah, so reassuring to hear similar stories. Guys, we are blessed to play softball where we can recognize a former teammate and still "know" him by his swing, his running style, his humor, etc.

At a tournament last weekend, I was chatting with a former teammate while watching a game in front of us. I noticed an outfielder who is noted for his healthy head of hair (and consequently often plays without a cap when there is no sun problem). I couldn't discern whether it was the right person or not, and asked my conversation partner if that was him…but I couldn't remember his name. Neither could my friend standing beside me, although we both knew whom we meant. The difference was that I played on the same team with the guy for two years less than a decade ago!
