ISA Senior World Series Columbus Indiana ???
I am just inquiring, as we don't know much about this tournament at end of July/early August.

ISA in Columbus Indiana.

Do a lot of "50 Majors" usually attend each year????

6 to 7 hour drive for most of us, not sure if we can fit this in schedule or take time off work to get there???

Any input appreciated.

Thanks

Jerry Jackson runs the tournament and usually brings his own crew and handles everything. I have gone to visit in Columbus and some other locations that it has been in the past, but I have never analyzed it by divisions before. I did a little searching on this site, and while you can find some lists of team names from prior years, last year the actual bracket was posted on the site (found the links in one of the messages). This is the 50s to save you the search http://seniorsoftball.com/wc/wc2014/ISA-14-50.pdf.

Columbus is a very nice, smaller city. Lincoln Park is one of the nicest softball facilities in Indiana and has a long history of senior softball leagues and tournaments.

There are usually 5-8 Major teams in this tourney. We used to be the only Major plus team to attend. We always played the Major teams and gave them 5 runs. I'm hoping that many turn out again this year as the Major team I'm playing om will be there. LS 50 Major.

Mario, thanks

We (CPOA/NOP) just played you (LS) multiple times in Indianapolis last weekend.

It looks like last year there was only (3) 50 Majors at Columbus though??

You guys have a nice team!!!

The one thing, (as you probably do know too) is we seem to play the same teams over and over & over & over again, no matter if we play in Ohio/Indiana/Michigan or even in Florida.

I'd hate to spend a couple "K" $$$ on motels, entry fees, and 6/7 driving hours to only play two teams all weekend.

But we will keep an eye on it.

Good Luck the rest of the summer!!!!!

17Black, I saw that, but I knew that you would also notice this. We usually seem to have a little better draw on the Majors here in Indy for whatever reason. I noticed when I was looking that you played in the Northern Championships last year, but you did not play in the Northeast Championships in Syracuse. They also had 3 50 upper teams (2 major, 1 major plus) last year, but I am thinking that they were ones that you might not see as much. While I always like for teams to come to Indiana events, I also disliked traveling long distances to play the same teams all the time. That seldom happened to us in SSUSA events, but we went all the way to Plano one time to play in a 5 team bracket to play against our local Brickyard team 3 times and never even played the Fossils. I am sure that you will do the right thing by your team, and if there is anything that I can do, please just ask. Chuck Sharkey is the NY director, and I am sure that he would be glad to help you if you think Syracuse might fit your needs. I met him earlier in the year, and he was pretty easy to talk with. His contact information is on this site.

Nancy, yes thanks for that info.

We do explore pretty much every tournament (SSUSA and other Associations) and ALL playing dates between April and Thanksgiving.

The one major issue we have ( as a 50's team) is everybody still works for a living--------we don't have any retirees, so trying to coordinate the same weekend for player availability is a challenge.

We have a set roster of 17 guys----------period----------all local guys who live within 25 miles of each other in the Cleveland area-------and our goal as a team, is to NOT pick up other players for tournaments unless an absolute emergency.

We are blessed to all be good friends who have pretty much known and played with/or against each other for 30+ years in local leagues and tournaments in Ohio.

Trying to blend work & travel schedules of Doctors/Tradesmen/CEO's/Truck Drivers/School Teachers/Engineers, and a whole lot of other professions in between, and NOT pick up other players is a challenge in itself.

We not only ignore & don't use the "border state" rule, LOL, we would probably have problems adding guys from the next county :-)

But it's what "WE" want to do.

There is a LOT to be said about going to (and winning often )tournaments with your VERY GOOD FRIENDS you've known for decades!!

17Black, I could tell that you did your homework talking with you last week. We had a team for 10 years, and I wish that it was the same experience as yours. Your team is a class act, and I was glad to get to know them a little better than I did before. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find your way to the TOC with the tournaments that you select. It must be a great experience to travel and play with your friends.

Mario, thanks for comments!!

No, it is highly unlikely we are going to Dalton this year.

However, we are shooting for 2016 on our "to do list"----------if you saw my post above, trying to get working guys off for a long weekend and either 11 hour drive or plane flights and a two hour drive to Dalton, realistically a 4/5 day weekend isn't going to work this year. We even explored flights from Cleveland to Chattanooga which basically is 10+ hours, with no direct flights.

On My world wide tour of the USA last Friday before the Indianapolis Tournament:

I was in Orlando Thursday afternoon, stayed in Atlanta Thursday night, I drove to Dalton Friday around 9:30AM, and stopped by to see the complex------wow--------pretty cool with the fields on top of the hill and the other fields below--------but everything was locked up---------I took a couple pics from outside the complex to show our guys.

I got back in car, drove to Nashville, then through Louisville and Kentucky Derby Traffic, and still got to the Managers meeting in Indianapolis at 5PM and had a cold beverage and chatted with Nancy and Dave.

Eleven hours of ball Sunday----------------counting our 7AM batting practice and back to back to back to back to back games.

Note to self-------DO NOT LOSE first game of Double Eliminaton!!!!! You guys beat us 28-27, in bottom of 7th, with nine straight hits and three bombs in bottom of 7th to knock us into losers bracket right off the bat.

It was quite a battle playing all day to get to play YOU again twice, but it was fun, and I am sorry somebody had to lose!!!!

My team has enjoyed this tournament since he moved it to Columbus In. Unfortunately, he moved it back a week and now conflicts with another we also like. Would return if conflict didn't happen again.

Lee thanks----------I wish we could go to Vegas---------again coordinating off dates from work for everybody is a challenge, but its still open for discussion.

I've played out there about 8/9 in the past, including, but not since, 2009 & 2010 when they had the winter nationals there (before the switch)

17Black Grimmie here played in this tourney last 3 years, We had 3 Major teams last year. had OKI & 3 Major teams 2 years before that most teams every in the Major was 4. But you can bet there will be more than 20 AAA teams. There will be 12 to 15 Major teams in the Smoky-Mountain tourney its ISSA only have 3 divisions.
