Team "Rankings"
OK, I know the only thing that matters is who wins on the field. At all tournaments but especially at the big tournaments.

Not trying to start any arguments or controversy.

Since SSUSA Staff (Dave) and others do see a lot of the teams around the country, is/was there every any thought into maybe having a SSUSA Top 10/ Top 20 or something by division???

Before the banter begins, I love the NCAA Basketball and now Football Playoffs as a way to get the #1 Team in the country as played on the court or field. Rankings every week generate interest in those sports before the playoffs ever begin.

However, part of the fun of entire NCAA seasons (as examples) is to see weekly rankings posted, start conversation and keep the interest alive, sometimes in epic proportions.

I am just wondering if softball tourney teams, who would be watching national rankings, would be more inclined to enter a tournament if they had a chance to play/knock off/move ahead of another SSUSA ranked team??? Or see how they may, or may not stack up against teams from other parts of the country (or even other softball associations) based on "opinion"

It could also generate more interest and turnout at some tournaments all year???

On the other hand it could cause other teams to not attend a tourney, knowing a ranked team or several were attending???

I think this is a great idea. However, going from a great idea to actual reality is another story. It would have to be fairly objective. A lot of stats would have to be collected by the SSUSA staff, then fed into a computer to select the ratings. They probably would have to increase the staff to accommodate this information. I think the interest to attend certain tournys would go both ways. Some teams want to play the best in their division, some sandbag. In the end however, the best teams in each division are going to play each other. I agree it would be of interest to see which teams are doing what during the season.

Agreed. I certainly don't want anybody to add staff or expenses.

I was thinking subjectively Dave or SSUSASTAFF sees a lot of teams in person.

I know it is probably not realistic. I do hear guys who don't get to play against certain teams, banter about how they would or wouldn't stack up against certain opponents.
