Wow. Another better than the rest Senior bats and you as fools will by it. I got few friends that still have senior bats in the wrapper, because they buy the next great one before they get a chance to use the old great one. LOL. Guys a senior bat is a senior bat 301 feet is the same as a 400 feet. Please wait a year or so and you get a great senior bat at very good discount.

Hmmm....very interesting. Miken needs to step it up if they want to keep up with Dudley, as they are running away with the Senior Softball market right now.

Paco, you are 100 percent correct... if everything where true about all these bats... everyone would be hitting 800 ft homers by now... the only thing I go by on any senior bat is Durability.. when you hit them all on the sweet spot they will all be within ten feet of each other.. IMO

All I can say is that if it's that good, why no mention of a warranty? After all, Miken had one earlier with one.

This Miken looks to have a good bit more pop than their warranted bat. Guess they had to sacrifice some distance for durability on the warranted version. As I've always heard you can't have your cake and eat it to.

This is in response to ? above, who said "After reading about all your bat testing I have noticed you have not rated any bat as a waste of money. Why is that?"

Living in SOFL, I have had the privilege of being able to bend Alan's ear on bats and other subjects. (I also have had the "privilege" to play on a team whose behind was kicked by his team..lol)

Alan has always been totally honest and unbiased in the information he has provided. He works hard at making sure he is able to provide factual information via his experience AND others input on various products.

He also knows that different bats are better for differing swing types. To give an example, the last time I was looking for a bat, he didn't guide me to his bat, he said "Sully, with your swing I think the bat you are using is fine."
(Still dont know if that was an insult or compliment?)

Alan has been a great sourcce of info for a lot of us and I think its important to thank him for the efforts.

Not sure why anyone would be impressed by the video.Every bat that you've tested -every video you shoot shows the same thing - You hitting the ball out of some park or another.Hitting it far is what you do. If you really want to showcase a bat shoot a video with the average Joe Smith or someone that just likes to play and wants a good durable softball bat.Ball going far doesn't say much and can be accomplished with any senior bat. jmo

Your testing of bats would be much better if you put some sort rating system on your test results. Something like a 1-10 or a A-E rating system.
That would provide much more information for me to consider when buying a new bat. It would provide more useful information to potential customers than just watching some guy hitting balls.

Hey Allen,

Another useful parameter to document might be amount break in required.
I am not sure how that would equated in a 1-10 scale, but if a fast break in coincides with great durability, that would be a good thing especially for those who are limited to how much BP time they have.

Here we go again, can someone just say (Miken) or who ever has just introduced a new senior bat or any other kind of (ISA, NSA, Usssa or ASA) bat and not say it's better or hits farther.

Guy's bats are rated either 98, 1.20 or 1.21 thats it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Can't go any further than the rating.

Let's stop all this nonsense of the new bats, they are just new models, thats all.

I should let Alan speak for himself, but...
I think one of the main points he is trying to get across is how durable this "new, latest, greatest" bat is, which is a huge bonus on any Senior bat.
Yes, the max number for a Senior bat is 1.21 but that is only one part of the story.

I just arrived home after hitting with Alan's New 27 ounce Miken Senior bat at one of the PGA National 300 foot softball fields in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. All I can say is WOW!!! I own two 27 ounce Dudley Lightning 12 inch EL bats that I hit very well when I am swinging well and "thought" the Dudley line of bats were the best bats for my particular swing. However, after taking only about five or so swings with Alan's Miken bat, I may have already changed my opinion. I was shocked and amazed at the DISTANCE the balls were traveling. I have hit at this field on numerous occasions in the past and have never hit balls as far as I did today. Additionally, one ball after another was consistently and quickly leaving the park. The sweet spot seemed to be the entire barrel. I was going to purchase another Dudley. However, after hitting today, I've changed my mind. I will be buying a new Miken bat instead. As a matter of fact, I told Alan after only a few swings that I want to and will buy one of these Miken bats once they go into production and become available. The sound of the ball striking the bat, the ease of the swing and the large sweet spot all make this bat extremely appealing to me. I was told that this bat already has over 1,400 swings, which is quite impressive for ANY senior bat. I can't imagine having one of these bats in the future especially with this type of durability and ridiculous performance. By the way, there were various tournament players hitting today with a lot of power and even after today's session, when I looked closely at the bat, there were no signs of any cracks or obvious damage.

To all you ego-maniacs that have to have the newest and greatest weapon so you can hit balls 450 feet, you need to stop and consider that when your 3 /5 / or seven home runs are gone that there are still infielders that are 70 feet away from your WEAPON of choice. Mite as well tee up a golf ball and use a driver.. Is that next?????

If it swings like the Big Cat and get 1500 swings instead of 150 swings I will get one. Who wants to buy 1 or 2 bats every year. I like the durability of the new bats. Just my opinion.

In order to have a bat that seems to provide longer distances, for those who are not power hitters, wouldn't this type of bat allow faster balls through and over the infielders, and between and over the outfielders? That's how I would look at a bat like this one.

Personally, I would only want a bat to have the required info on a single color, if even that is needed. As long as it accepts tape with the rotation numbers, I'm a happy guy. Looks like this is similar to the Lightning's coming out party, see you in September, which dragged on in some regions.

Until there is a production run on these bats yours is considered a prototype to me, for G sakes it doesn't even have any graphic's. We all know the prototypes are good as always the first batch seems to always be better.

As a pitcher and infielder I must agree with tg69. Where does the madness end? As seniors, does crushing power and ego's trump safety and sensibility? We recently had a pitcher in our rec league suffer a broken wrist from an extremely hard hit line drive. I understand tri is pushing the durability of the new "Miken" but also how "hard" the bat hits.

I always find it amusing when there is a discussion concerning a bat company trying to design a bat with both performance and durability, especially Miken. I began playing ball in 2003 as a 55 year old. My first bat was a black ultra II which I used solely for two and a half years. The first night I used it in league play I hit three out. Pretty good performance from a bat that wasn't even broken in. I played four games a week in summer league and fall league plus about ten tournaments a year plus batting practice.I don't know how many hits it had on it, but it had many, I know other players who had this same bat for years without it breaking.

I'm old and have much less power, but still break the Miken black Ultra II's in 300-400 hits. The last one weaned me from Miken, it broke in 35 hits.

My question is, why doesn't Miken just reproduce the 2003 bat. They already have the technology. Perhaps a different color with different name and graphics?

I've been told by Miken reps that the process for making the black ultra is the exactly the same because it is patented, but I just don't buy it.

Hombre, I'd say that you hit the nail exactly on the head. When it comes to Miken I'm not a buyer either. Same promises, different year.
My experience with the Ultra II is pretty much the same as yours.
As Lee Lee said 'a prototype isn't the same as a production model'. How true that is... as with the P:413 model.
I stopped jumping to the 'newest and greatest' a while back. Instead, I wait to see how many guys are using them (and with good results) in tourneys. When it seems like I'm seeing it quite a bit I then look into it.
I did this with Reebok and with Dudley. I was 2-3 years behind the Reebok train because of all of the early breakage. I'm very satisfied with the Melee.
I've heard an awful lot about the Ambush and actually experimented with it... I never used it in a game for the reasons stated above and because it was nowhere near as good as other Combats that I had (Da' Bomb, Dirty and White Centenarian), IMO... and the good folks on Senior Softball Bat Reviews stated the same.
I do read a few random posts on here about guys who are happy with their Ambush. That doesn't seem like a lot of acceptance to me. I just don't see anyone using them.
Alan claims that they're awesome. Now he's saying that the newest, greatest Miken is better than awesome... maybe he's right. I can't say for sure but I do wonder how it can be both better and more durable while still meeting 1.21 specs.

Hombre, I totally agree with you! I had a similar discussion with "Adam" a miken rep who gets on hear occasionally. I said the same thing the Ultra II I got when the original grey ultra's were banned, I swung it for at least 2 years. Had to have at least 3-4000 swings on it before it broke hitting .44 and .47 core balls. Now you can't tell technology has went backwards I was 39-40 years old then I know i don't swing harder now than I did then. Have not got a Ultra II hardly past 200 swings now. Alan have you had any discussion with Miken on this? There is no way the current bats out right now are using the same composite materials they were using in 2003!

Alan, mine is not intended to be a negative commentary of you or the bat that you're testing, but of Miken for already having the technology to produce a durable bat with high performance. I'm sorry that I didn't explain myself better. hombre

Alan thanks for the great feedback on the newest offering that's coming about from Miken. It's always interesting and informative to get your take on things.

For those of you who are going on about the durability issues of the bats today you are forgetting one factor - since these bats were introduced in 2003 how many ball changes have there been? What impacts the life of the bat more than anything is the ball that is being hit. Back in 2003 we were hitting a leather covered ball that was completely different in composition than today's offerings.

I've tried Mikens, Combats, Eastons, the Nightmare and each of these have there positive and negative points but as Alan has said previously it's more a matter of what bat fits your swing the best. The game we love to play is 95% mental so if you're comfortable & confident with what you're swinging and put the time in to take productive BP you give yourself the best opportunity to succeed.

I don't think Alan is recommending one bat over another and I'm pretty sure he will sell you a bat from whichever manufacturer you choose, however, he will give you his honest opinion if you ask and will help you to find a bat that suits you if that's what you want. Similar to Dave V that does the Senior Softball Bat reviews Alan is just doing his best to inform us on products we may not have had the opportunity to swing. So fellas try to be a bit appreciative and take everything as always with "a grain of salt".

Thanks,
Brad

HI ALAN, ONE QUESTION, HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO THE SENIOR FREAK BLACK. OBVIOUSLY BETTER IN DURABILITY, BUT WHAT ABOUT FEEL AND POP. JUST CRACKED THE DUDLEY I STARTED USING AT YOUR CAMP. (AROUND 800 SWINGS I GUESS) SO I NEED SOMETHING TO START BREAKING IN JUST IN CASE THE NEXT ONE GOES BY-BY.

LeeLee51, you should just order one from Alan today.
If U can get a bat that will last 2000 solid swings and
hit with the traditional Miken, just do it.

I just hit a 52/300 ball close to 400' (with a 15 mph wind) using an Ultra II that is well broken in and with not much life left. I would guess the New Miken Will just be getting
started at the number of swings this current bat has!!
