Louisville, Kentucky
We're going to Louisville for the Senior Olympics and the softball fields are close to Ft. Knox. Does anyone have any suggestions about where to stay? What is downtown Louisville like? Would it be worth staying in Louisville and driving to the fields each day, or would it be better to stay close to the fields? Do you know anything about Elizabethtown?

I have played at Fort Knox many times. There are 6-8 motels on Hwy. 31 near the entrances to Fort Knox and they are usually very reasonable as far as rates go. Louisville is a twenty min drive down Hwy 31. I suggest staying around Ft. Knox since every time you go into the base you are subject to search. They do a random search but check everyones ID. That bring up another subject. Make sure everyone driving into the base has a non expired drivers license and current insurance and car registration papers because you will be detained(not turned away) until you prove otherwise. It is a great six field complex with two three field complexs with two soccer fields in between. A great place for hitting practice. I also suggest making reservations soon because of limited number of rooms available. Let me know if you need any other information. I will be umpiring some of the games out there during the Senior Olympics.

RedEye USSSA Kentucky are running the tournament. I haven't heard what particular association rules are going to be used. Whatever rules are used I hope to help train the umpires in senior rules. We have a pretty good group of umpires in the Louisville area who have umpired senior leagues. We have a good senior league with six various traveling senior teams. These leagues are USSSA so umpires have some experience with senior rules.

Hi Tom, 2 questions for you, Why has Johnny Perry's tourney been pulled from the schedule for the first of June? and when will this USSSA senoirs games tourney be played ?, we might be interested in coming down and playing in it?, also how is your new 55 team shaping up to be?, Nancy Allen was the one that tods me today that Johnnys pulled her tourney,so now I have to look for a new one to attend, might have to go back to South Bend, which is not well attended, only reason that it is the closest, Rabbit

Hey Rabbit this is the first I heard of Johnny's tournament being canceled. I have a call in to her to find out why. We hate to lose a home tourney. The Senior Olympics take place from June 22 through July 1. This event you had to qualify last year through your state games. I think Zeppelin from Louisville qualified from Ky. Our 55 team is shaping up. We have 12 players from our original 50 team. We hope to play about 6 or 7 tourneys. I'll let you know what I find out about Johnny's tournament.

JTS2, Thanks for the info on Ft. Knox. The fields sound great! I'm also looking into Elizabethtown. Thanks again!
