Allsrtate Miken the 55 Major Plus team won the T of C going 5-0 in the combined 50/55 division. Mac II out of California came in second with Al Estes out of Florida third. I believe Ploog out of minnesota was fourth with Motown fifth and Railtrust sixth.

It was a very well run tournament and the 55 team, although old and slow, used their extra infielder to their advantage and were able to beat some much more powerful teams.

Congrats to all for some excellent games and sportsmanship!

I love it when the "old" guys have it their way.
Way to go All-State!
Sounds like you made the right call going
to a 5 man infield instead of taking the runs.
I saw the 5 man used to perfection by Mickey Hughes and Courtesy Auto team last year and have great respect for what it can do in the right circumstances and with the right people.
I'm glad to say Mickey will be playing for us at Kelly's this year and we'll be using the 5 man a lot.

Re: 5 man infield
I have been a proponent if it as well. Maroadi's (Mifflin, PA) ran it to perfection in the late 90's in the 40 & 45 ASA Nationals. Aside from their experience with it, the thing that made it work really was the fact the the 4th HR was an out. They won the 45 ASA several years running until Courtesy Auto beat them.
GSF was double dipped by CT Sportsplex last year (SSWS) when they went into the 5 man. I am always amused when teams say that they 'don't have the right outfielders to do it'.
It really isn't about the outfielders... it's mostly about the pitcher and the infielders.
We used that rule in November (5 runs or 11 fielders) but didn't have enough personell for the latter. In my view, the 11th guy means a lot more than 5 runs if it's done correctly.
Congratulations to All State... I hope that you're coming to LV in April.

Donnie, Thanks for the thought but this wasn't one of my better tournaments. I'm just glad we won!
Our All Tournament picks were Gary Deaton-MVP, Harold Jones, Mike Gibson, Mike Gainer and Terrall Stokes.
Gary Deaton said that may have been the only time that the MVP of a tournament had struck out on the last at-bat.
I would like to echo what Audie said, "excellent games and sportsmanship!"
Also, a big thanks Terry and Dave.

Great tourney Dave and Terry and staff did a great job, The game that All-State Miken had the umpires were great, it seems that all the teams in the 50/55 dvison had some good fellowship, All the game were close anyone that played in that bracket could have won it all. 3 days of great softball aand weather what else could a person ask for

TOC Update for 60 major+
Spicer Prop. came out of the losers bracket into the Championship game & beat the Florida Raptors (Team FL in 2006) 30-25. In the tight "IF" game FL lead by 4 in the open inning & held off Spicer to win the Championship. Dave Reed got the MVP bat. A great pair of games & we were the last to leave at 6pm. Hats off for a well-run tournament!!

Gekle Builders ... thanks for the props. It was great seeing you guys and Sudsy again after what ... 16 years? Skyhawk Roofing lives on! I still have the ZUBA's warm-up pants buried in my closet.
You guys pounded it pretty good after Friday when you were able to shake off some rust. We were saved by the 5 run rule a couple of times.

Take care and hope to see you down the road. You guys have a great year

Conman

ps ... you guys didn't get too sunburned did you?
