July 5, 2007 tcadmw1 Men's 55 62 posts | So when you say "will be removed immediately" does that only reference the whole conversation topic or just those replies that include such items as you have listed? Just wondering since each of the following topics on the first page of this message board listings include such items yet have not been removed? July 5, 2007 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Way to go, Staff. Some where, sometimes in the midst of all the chaos somebody's gotta take a stand to protect and preserve something so important for all of us, a vital channel of communication, so we don't keep getting driven farther apart from one another. Bravo, Fran, Dave, Terry, Bill, Stephanie and Chris and anyone else I may have missed. You have my support and if I ever have a beef with what you have done I will communicate with you directly. Very important stuff. Way to go. |
July 5, 2007 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | I see a discussion coming about censorship and American values and I want to say up front that censorship isn't good or bad. We restrict or censor ourselves all the time and we have to, to keep from running into or having to resort to eating one other. For me, it's why and who is served. If censorship in inlcusive, that is, to preserve what's most vital and important for ALL of us then I'm with it. If it's done to exclude or ostracize someone who's views aren't popular or to satisfy the insecure ranting of others who may be better connected or more popular then I'm against it. We are ALL in this society, softball or otherwiese, together and we all belong as much as anyone else does or ever has and the solutions we make fashion need to be based on including everyone and what's best for everyone rather than excluding anyone. And most importanly, because we are all imperfect, we can't wait for the perfect time, or place to take a stand. It's got to be done by real human beings in a real society with a lot of other real stuff going on. So there's going to be some misunderstanding and conflict and the need for clarification and argument to help us work it all out. Par for the course, really. Again, way to go SSUSA in being willing to draw the heat to protect and preserve what's most important to ALL of us. |
July 6, 2007 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey guys, I feel not unlike Gilda Radner from SNL, playing Roseanne Roseannadanna, after going off on a topic only to be stopped by Chevy Chase for misunderstanding the topic. SSUSA posted their rules again because they received a raft of commercial advertising messages in the last short chunk of time and not to ignite/inflame the site with conversations about censorship. And, I was warming up, too. The posts that the Staff was talking about are blatant ads for commercial web sites or for other competing sr. softball organizations. Another organization posted several messages over the holiday promoting another non-ssusa tournament. Comments about specific products are not against the rules at all, but ads for them or for their web sites are. |
July 6, 2007 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | I talked with the guilty one. Last year he posted here the details of his tournament and everything seemed ok. He posted again this week and his posts were deleted. He called me to say that he was under the impression that he could post here about his tournament. I don't have a problem of the SSUSA Staff deleting post promoting other associations or even advertising products. I think that the Staff should be commended for maintaining this board. |
July 6, 2007 tcadmw1 Men's 55 62 posts | I don't mind being editted or censored from time to time if I break the posting rules. No problem with protecting ones property whether it is real or virtual. But I do take acception when such rules of stated for protection are NOT applied equally. Here is what was stated as the rules: -1- Inappropriate language -2- Disparaging comments directed toward any individual -3- Promotion for other senior softball organizations -4- Advertising for commercial products, services or websites All well and good about deleting promotions for other non ssusa tournaments so stick to it when you have any tournament that is NOT posted under the ssusa tournaments listings on this website. Delete them all!!! If disparaging comments directed toward any individual is also a reason then lets read all the comments that call people out, or say other things that aren't what any reasonable person would consider anything less than "Disparaging" so why aren't these deleted? Seems like as long as it ain't a Miken Rep or similar on here trying to sell a miken product then the anyone can promote their favorite product(s) or even sell these product(s) for them? So I ask where is the equal application of these rules for all? I'm not promoting letting everyone break these rules I'm just saying the application of them seems a little hypocritical based on the posts that are allowed to remain. Mike Walker |
July 6, 2007 Fred Scerra Men's 80 542 posts | I heartily support the SSUSA staff also. It is plain and simple. The rules are there. If you don't like them don't bother logging in. If you do still log on stop your whining and follow the rules. |
July 6, 2007 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | tcadmw1 Just as the Steroid Rule in baseball should be interpreted so as NOT to punish or single out anyone or what may have happened in the past but BE proactive, starting at a specific point in time, moving forward, so should SSUSA make a ruling, any ruling proactive, going forward, leaving the past as a record, a teacher and reminder of why and where we're headed. I have a sense of how difficult and important the job of maintaining as meaningful a forum as the SSUSA Message board and I support Bruce and Fred and applaud SSUSA for it's current action and direction. Plus, as any good judge will tell you, all cases involving human beings though similar in appearance, can be essentially and meaningfully different . Let's take someone calling someone out as an example of bad/inappropriate behavior. No one should be called out but if the called out had in fact, done or said something disparaging or disrespectful, then maybe its intention and scope was more to "include" rather than "exclude" human beings. Like if someone calls out a bully for throwing his weight around the behavior might look ugly/bad but it's purpose and value are to include, protect and preserve rather than bash or intimidate. All to say, SSUSA provides us the best softball forum in the nation and it only gets better. They are very careful not to censure "boarders" as I will attest to. I've tried to get them to squash a couple of entrants I thought highly inappropriate and they refused and in hindsight, I'm glad they did. |
