Comosite bat ban for mid 2008 ?
I am confussed. Is ASA banning all current composite bats or do the bat companies just have to stop making composite bat or do the companies have to stop making all current production bats ?

ASA IS NOT GOING TO BAN COMPOSITE BATS. WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO IS A "ROLLER TYPE" PROCEDURE ON THE BAT WHICH WILL MAKE IT PERFORM AS IF IT WERE USED AFTER HITTING MANY SOFTBALLS. BASICALLY IT WILL MAKE THE BAT PERFORM AS IF IT WERE TOTALLY BROKEN IN.
MANUFACTURERS WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO DEADEN THE BATS SO THEY MEET THE 98MPH AFTER THEY ARE THOROUGHLY BROKEN IN FROM THE NEW "ROLLER PROCEDURE".
THIS BASICALLY MEANS YOU WILL HAVE A LOW PERFORMING BAT (91 OR 92 MPH) THAT WILL REACH ITS PEAK PERFORMANCE (98MPH) AFTER MANY HITS ON IT AND STILL PASS THE ASA 98MPH TEST.

Sounds like this new rule might kill ASA in senior softball. Or maybe it is for the good. Not sure since I do not know what a 02mph bat will do.

I wonder if ASA is going to do something we are not suppose to do. Like roll the bat, mallet the bat, hit on a electric pole and so on. I don't thing hire just to get on the feel and brake the bat in the right way. We know from experience that not every bat takes the same amount of time to brake end. Some ASA bats or hot right out the raper some aren't. I guess it will be a flip of a coin if your bat is legal or not.To me they need to fix alot of the fields. For most of the ones I play are worse than the bats could ever be. You never know where the ball will bounce. It's easy to blame the bat.

Scrappy6 is right on with what ASA is doing he just needed to add this (I got this from a certain composite only bat company). Most bat companies will not want the bat to exceed the 98 mph once broken in because if it does then it will be banned so the new models that they must start producing after June 1 2008 may never get above 96 mph once broken in.

Now the ASA bats that are being produced now and until June 1 2008 will not be tested under the new standards and are suppose to be legal forever (forever with ASA can only mean a year or two). So if you play ASA it might behoove you to get a bat now and baby it because the replacement bats will be fall under the new standards.

PS You may also see a price hike at the stores once we get closer to 06/01/2008. I know that the bat company I talked to said they are having a run on all existing ASA bats.

The only ASA bats that I've hit with are the 100MPH Freak and the black rip it so I really don't know much about the 98MPH bats. Can anyone give me any information on what ASA bat would be a good to purchase for the 2008 season. The Freak and a number of other currently legal ASA bats will be banned and I'm not overly impressed with the black rip it.

i have not hit the ASA black senior elite, but have hit the ASA reaper by rip-it and like it as my ASA bat for this coming yr.also the combat anti-virus is a good bat for ASA,that will be my back-up to the reaper.i can't comment on the others as i've not hit with them.also if u can swing a 33" inch bat,the lady virus by combat is real good choice.

Does this mean the Senior Combat and Ultra II coming out in the summer of 08 are going to be retooled also to meet these standards?
If this is that case better buy some extra bats.

I'm using a Mutant 98 for my leagues that require ASA standards. I like it alot for a ASA bat. My only concerns are the flex in the handle because of the two piece design and it seems to not be a very good bat in cold weather.

I've used the bat for only half a year last year and only in leagues which is 2 to 4 times a week. A Miken rep. tried to sell me a Recoil claiming the flex in the handle for batters with faster swings hinders your performance. This may be true, but he also was trying to sell me a bat.

I swung a ASA black rip-it for a bit and ended up selling it.

What didn't you like about the black Rip-it. I hear the Mutant is hot ASA bat. Is it hotter than the Senior Combat?

hitt2; It was a 28oz. but swung like a 26. way to light for me. did not seem to have any pop. I thought i broke it in ( over 200 hits ) maybe it needed more, but I gave up trying. Line drivers were OK but no deep fly balls. It could have been that I was over swinging, but even when I felt I got all of the ball, I was not satisfied.

I have a senior combat but it's not completely broke in. I've used it only in one turney when I could not use the U2 so a fair comparison is tuff. I do feel that even though its not broke in its hotter, but its not ASA approved.

Thanks for the response. I also swing the Combat senior model. The UII doesn’t work for me. I've tried the launch 510, its ok. You will see more tramp effect in your bat after about 275 swings. This bat is durable. Don't swing in BP after 50 swings. I'm looking for an ASA bat to meet requirements, durable, with some pop. I found a site that was selling the black rip-it for $99.

I like the Anti Virus from Combat. After it is broke in it is as hot or hotter than any of the other ASA bats and last a good long time. This bat comes in Endload, Extra Endload and a balance model.
