Strike or not?
In golf, a "stroke" is an intentional stroke to hit the ball. In Las Vegas 10/1/04 the umpire called "strike" on a batter who let his bat casually swing through a pitch (with no intention of hitting the ball) that would have been called a "ball".
Do (should) the rules of softball also define a strike as an intentional stroke to hit the ball?

The SSUSA rules just states if a batter swings and misses before the ball hits the ground or plate it is a strike. So techincally I would say the umpire is right.

In ASA, Rule 7, Section 4 (B), it states that "if a batter swings and misses the pitch prior to it hitting the ground or plate, it is a strike".
