Sept. 16, 2008 THE HI-JACKER 118 posts | DC 5: The Gary / TND / Dirty, dribble, is better than R & R Trivia 6. |
Sept. 16, 2008 stattad Men's 65 235 posts | Don't know what that means, but let's try this one: In the late 50's there was a song called "The All-American Boy". The label said it was recorded by Bill Parsons, but this was a mistake by the record label company. Who really sang the song? |
Sept. 16, 2008 bandits14 Men's 50 7 posts | hey Dbax, don't you ever work? |
Sept. 16, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Wow, coming from a teammate. What, no crack about donuts? |
Sept. 16, 2008 bandits14 Men's 50 7 posts | I'll save those for dickie-doo |
Sept. 16, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | stattad, great question. I had to Google the answer. Never heard that story before. |
Sept. 17, 2008 F.O.G. Men's 40 105 posts | I'm getting educated here! |
Sept. 17, 2008 stattad Men's 65 235 posts | Before we move on to another question, here are some lyrics from the song that might jostle your memory (those that don't remember it): So I'd pick my gittar With a great big grin And the money just kept on pourin' in But then one day my Uncle Sam He said (sound of 3 footsteps) Here I am Uncle Sam needs you, boy I'm-a gonna cut your hair Ah-Take this rifle, kid Gimme that gittar, yeah |
Sept. 18, 2008 stattad Men's 65 235 posts | Okay, I guess that one was pretty hard. The answer was Bobby Bare. Try this one. Murray Wilson, father of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, managed what group after Brian fired him from his leadership role? Hint--It was another surf group and managed a couple of hits in the mid-60s. |
Sept. 18, 2008 The Great McGonigle Men's 50 13 posts | Stattad, good one. I had to look it up, and never would have came up w/that group! |
Sept. 19, 2008 stattad Men's 65 235 posts | I guess these are harder than I thought. The answer was The Sunrays (I Live for the Sun & Andrea). Maybe this one is easier...For what did ex-Monkee Mike Nesmith win a grammy? (He was the first one to do something) |
Sept. 22, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Once again, you got us. |
Sept. 23, 2008 stattad Men's 65 235 posts | Dbax, why don't you try one. Mike Nesmith is acknowledged as having made the first music video, Elephant Parts. |
Sept. 23, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Where did the name Steely Dan come from? |
Sept. 24, 2008 frampton Men's 55 55 posts | That one I know -- it's from the name of the "sex toy" in Burroughs's novel Naked Lunch, as I recall. |
Sept. 24, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Frampton comes alive! You are correct and are now up. |
Sept. 29, 2008 frampton Men's 55 55 posts | Sorry for the delay, was traveling. A not-so-tough one: who replaced Eric Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers? |
Sept. 29, 2008 Tate22 Men's 60 280 posts | Peter Green, later to found Fleetwod Mac. |
Sept. 29, 2008 frampton Men's 55 55 posts | Right you are. (Mick Fleetwood and Peter McVie, after whom Fleetwood Mac was named, were also in the Bluesbreakers; it took a while to convince McVie to leave, so the first couple of Fleetwood Mac gigs had a different bass player.) Green was a helluva guitarist. Your turn . . . |
Sept. 29, 2008 Tate22 Men's 60 280 posts | This will be too easy for Frampton, but what is the name of the song from the first Fleetwood Mac album, written by Peter Green, that became a major hit two years later for what American group from the Bay Area? |
Sept. 29, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | It's gotta be Santana's "Black Magic Woman" cuz I know it was a Fleetwood song. But I looked it up and it's on their 3rd album. |
Sept. 29, 2008 Tate22 Men's 60 280 posts | Dbax: Correct!! That's why you are the king of all rock-n-roll trivia. Technically, Black Magic Woman was a single released right after the first album, but it appears on their third LP (first US LP) English Rose. For bonus points, who is the chick on the cover of English Rose? |
Sept. 29, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Don, I had to look at it, but I'm guessing it's gotta be Mick! These are great questions. |
Sept. 30, 2008 Tate22 Men's 60 280 posts | Correct again, RNR Trivia Master!! The chick is Mick. I think your up again, especially since I sneaked in an extra question. Don |
Sept. 30, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | From the song "American Pie" ......... "I met a girl who sang the blues." Who is this allegedly? |
Sept. 30, 2008 frampton Men's 55 55 posts | I've always heard (and agree) that it refers to Janis Joplin. (Sadly, never got to see her perform live. Festival Express has some great stuff in it, though.) |
Sept. 30, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | That was quick! Go for it. |
Oct. 1, 2008 frampton Men's 55 55 posts | A rock and roll pioneer died this year, but leaves behind the "beat" named after him. Name him, and a song that uses the beat. |
Oct. 1, 2008 Tate22 Men's 60 280 posts | Hey Bo Diddley, bomp, bomp,bomp, ba-bomp bomp. |
Oct. 1, 2008 Tate22 Men's 60 280 posts | Oops, forgot a song with the beat. How about "She's the One" by Bruce Springsteen or "Not Fade Away" by the Stones |
Oct. 1, 2008 frampton Men's 55 55 posts | Right you are. LOTS of songs to choose from, those are great examples. (Others are Mona (I like the Quicksilver cover), Who Do You Love.) Your turn . . . |
Oct. 1, 2008 Tate22 Men's 60 280 posts | Agree on the Quicksilver cover. What is the name of the group and the name of their song that the Dixie Chicks used to get their name? |
Oct. 1, 2008 Joncon 328 posts | Another logical stab Dixie Chick...Dixie Chicken? Little Feat?? |
Oct. 1, 2008 Joncon 328 posts | I just googled it and.........I rock. Thanks to Doug for playing it on the way to Yuma a few years ago and refreshing my memory. |
Oct. 1, 2008 Joncon 328 posts | My all time favorite guitarist's band played on this solo artists 1969 hit "Barabajagal" Artist should be easy, the band may be trivial. |
Oct. 2, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Donovan wouold be the artist. |
Oct. 2, 2008 frampton Men's 55 55 posts | Joncon, I had to look up the answer, so won't give it away or pretend to win, but you'll have to tell me which guitarist from that band is your favorite. I hope I know the answer . . . BTW, I do some volunteer work for Little Feat, they're touring now and are still a great show. |
Oct. 2, 2008 Joncon 328 posts | Well...there is only one guitarist from that band....it's named after him. If you listen you can tell who it is. When everyone else was listening to Hendrix, Page and Clapton, I was listening to him. Very understated. His guitar never dominated the music. |
Oct. 2, 2008 Lecak Men's 60 1026 posts | Played with the greatest Bass player of all time Stanley Clarke. Freeway Jam, constipated duck. Did some work with Guns N Roses was actually supposed to tour with them blown out ear drums stopped it. Never heard of the guy. Understated the dude blew the doors off of stadium roofs when I saw him. Heard some demo stuff he did with Guns n Roses nothing understated about it. |
Oct. 2, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | I think Frampton is referring to The Yardbirds. Hint,hint. |
Oct. 2, 2008 Lecak Men's 60 1026 posts | Dave I know who he is referring to again here is a youtube of some outrageous stuff with Guns n Roses. Imagine the possiblities. The guy who's name I won't type cause I don't feel like answering, again Joncon understated my ass. 8 minutes of insanity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMq3G8rdWlk |
Oct. 2, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | WOW! |
Oct. 2, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | WOW! |
Oct. 3, 2008 Tate22 Men's 60 280 posts | Joncon: Of course, it's Jeff Beck. I think he was the most talented of all the Yardbirds. Also, great work on the Little Feat answer. Frampton - I'm also a huge Feat Fan, got to hang out backstage with them in May at the Doheny Blues Festival. November 5th, Great American Music Hall in SF, but you probably knew that. Don Newhard |
Oct. 3, 2008 Joncon 328 posts | I didn't think the G&R clip was very good. Jeff Beck's guitar WAS understated......in thet video also. He got in a few licks around the 4 minute mark but it was predominately Slash's guitar playing the same ryhthm part over and over, dominating the jam. What I always like about him is that he never simply turned up his volume to dominate the music. He was a PART of it. One of you clowns is up next :) And.......If any of you do not have the 2 JB Group albums with Rod Stewart as the vocalist (Truth and Beckola),........... get them. |
Oct. 3, 2008 frampton Men's 55 55 posts | Well, I was referring to Ronnie Wood -- he played bass for Beck (who I agree is a great guitarist), but despite now being a Rolling Stone, isn't near Beck's class. |
Oct. 3, 2008 frampton Men's 55 55 posts | Don, I''l be there on 5 November, come by the merchandise table and introduce yourself. I was there last night to see Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, and Jim Keltner, Elvis Costello was the special guest, very fun show. mike fenger |
Oct. 3, 2008 Dbax Men's 65 2101 posts | Whew!, I don't know who is up, but I wiil award it to Tate22. Don let's go to Rock 'N Roll 7. |
