| Dec. 8, 2004 Steph 14 posts | Southwest deals FYI...Phoenix, AZ is the feature destination at Southwest Airlines this week. A perfect time to get a great deal on flights. Just in time for the Gold Glove Classic in February. |
| Dec. 8, 2004 TexasTransplant Men's 65 368 posts | Too bad the Wright Amendment, with tons of support from DFW Airport and American Airlines, keeps us from being able to take advantage out of Dallas. |
| Dec. 8, 2004 Fred 45 posts | Doesn't Southwest still fly out of Love field in Big D? Fred |
| Dec. 8, 2004 DaveDowell Men's 60 975 posts | Fred ... It's strange, but Love Field in Dallas is the *only* Texas city Southwest serves that doesn't have any non-stop flights to Phoenix ... Connections are available to PHX from any of those other TX cities, as well as through Albuquerque ... strange! |
| Dec. 8, 2004 TexasTransplant Men's 65 368 posts | There is actually a Federal law (Wright Amendment) that prohibits SW from flying long haul flights out of Love. They can fly to other TX cities, adjoining states, + Kansas & Alabama. They are not even allowed to book connecting flights through other TX cities to states other than those listed above. It all goes back to when DFW airport was new. Officials were afraid that if SW was allowed to operate long haul flights out of Love, no one would move to DFW. It's archaic now, but American and DFW officials have a vested interest in keeping it in place. |
