April 25, 2009 jim16 Men's 65 180 posts | Did I break or just tie a record On Friday in an SPA qualifier in Baytown Tx I was pitching and was hit by the same batted ball three times. A line drive went off the little finger of my glove, then hit me in the right leg about 2 inches below the groin and then hit my left leg about 4 inches below the groin. I have a ball sized purple bruise on both legs and a sore little finger. It hit me flush on the third hit, fell to the ground and I picked it up and forced a runner at second. Is this some kind of record? I wasnt wearing a cup and it could have been a bulls eye. All injuries are minor but who has been injured three times by the same batted ball? |

Good luck in Baytown - wish I were there...we decided to play in Mustang last weekend (COLD/Windy) rather than in the nice Texas weather. Maybe next year... |
April 26, 2009 LP 317 posts | jim16 once again SPA has taken the money and ran. tournament got rained out after we 60's played our pool games. i dont know what SSUSA would have done this has never happened in the ones they have had since i have been playing. but i hope they have more class than SPA,and just take the money and run |
April 26, 2009 jim16 Men's 65 180 posts | Both Larry's, Injury not serious at all, just a sore finger for a few days and bruises on both legs. If all of the impact was in one place it might have been bad but since it hit me three times I actually slowed it down, it was almost a croquet shot. On Friday the fields were great, a bit windy but the day was pleasant and the format was very good. However, friday night it didnt just rain, it came down in buckets. It rained all night with very active thunder and lightning. I heard that places in the area got as much as 5 inches that night. The water table was already way up because of the rains earlier in the week and there was no way to play on sat or sunday. At least we got 3 games in on friday but the decision to cancel was inevitable. There was no way to get the fields playable. SPA did as well as they could with the conditions and the teams that came in friday night didnt get any games at all. Houston in the spring is always a possible rain out. I cant see where SPA did anything wrong, it was just a big local storm. Too bad because it was going to be a good tournament. |
April 26, 2009 J R 251 posts | The tournament was off to a good start. Jim we had a good game with you guys. I was looking forward to Saturday. I guess she declared your team champs. Because i was given a finalist award.I wish it had just been called off.I guess we see you in Georgetown that was our first time to play we had been rained the last 3 tournaments. |
April 26, 2009 J R 251 posts | SPA did a great job in Baytown. No way to control weather.I went out to the park Saturday morning infields were under water |
April 26, 2009 jim16 Men's 65 180 posts | Jack, I agree with all you've said. No way possible to play the tourney, SPA did a great job, couldnt have done better |
April 27, 2009 LP 317 posts | jim i didnt say baytown tournament was run badly, like last year, maybe i should have been rescheduled or just canceled like they did and refund entry fees. we now have paid $640 for five games in two years. to keep the teams wanting to come back sometimes the organization should bite the bullet. one thing is clear maybe they need to get this tournament out of april. |
April 27, 2009 mad dog Men's 65 4190 posts | LP,you should at least get credit for future tourney's like we have(dallas spurs).georgetown was washed out so we were given an already paid for this one, hopefully it will carry over to our next one.at least you should get a partial if you got a only a couple games in friday. jim 3 times, man you just are the lucky one LOL,hey i did the same thing you did saturday tho(tried to get for the police tourney),but i didn't get back to longview as quick as you did. |
April 27, 2009 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | Jim 16, I'm impressed. I've been hit several times on the glove hand/wrist/arm and then ricocheting onto the chest/thigh/hip, but never three times! Sounds like a call to Ripley's Believe It Or Not is in order. |
