Who Says our game needs to be FIXED
The Juggernaut is up again
huffing, puffing and gaining speed
to change senior softball from the game we love to play to something
lethally less.

Who says/said we need different equipment?
Who said our game is too dangerous?
Who said smaller guys like me
at 5'11" and 235 lbs. shouldn't be able to hit a softball 400 feet.
Where's the evidence that more guys get hurt today than 10 years ago.
Where'e the evidence that juiced bats
are rampant in senior ball
and everyone should be punished for the
cheating of a few?
Who says our game is not really softball
but some perverse indulgence
of once a classic game played with wooden bats and wrapped balls of yarn?

When we ask questions and separate from the Juggernaut that has been raised
mostly from manipulation, self interest
fear and greed
the reason to change it all
TRULY
lacks merit.
Those who DON'T love or respect us
and OUR game are organized
fueling, whispering and guiding the path
of the great monster to suit their ends
and if senior softball dies
as a result so be it 'cause
they don't REALLY care.
The baby boomers are on their way out
and let's focus on the 40's who will become seniors soon enough.
Who thinks and needs to think 5 and 10 years down the road regarding their investment and control of the market place?
Who says our balls are too lively
and happens to have the
only remedy, the antidote
for all our concerns?

C'mon man.
In broad daylight
from ignorance, apathy, self interest
and greed our game is dying
and no one seems to care or want to care
that it all is being run by a powerful
few who don't have our interests at heart.
We can stop them simply
but standing up and saying NO.

You can kill or ridicule the messenger
but the message goes unchanged.
We're being had.
Robbed in broad daylight
taking it sitting and lying down
when we can still say no.

What would Joe Morgan say.
What would all the guys I talk with/about what's going on say?
What would 1800 players from NorCal say?
It's not fate which has created the Juggernaut that's come to kill Senior Softball,
It's the greed and self interest
of the few coupled with ignorance
and apathy of the many
that's killing us
and
we all have roles in the movie.

I was talking with a player fron NorCal last night
and for the life of us
we can't figure out why those that run
or make decisions about senior softball
don't understand that we, all ball players, need to hit
balls well and hard for it to be fun.
No sacrifice or compromise or improvement is worth losing the feel
of being able to drive a ball through a hole or gap or over a fence.
As simple as this is
it still seems to elude some of us.

Without the ball going fast or far
the game lacks a fundamental joy
an essential ingredient
to even wanting to play
ball, any ball.

How can we not realize this
is absolutely essential to our experience?

Now, if I'm wrong about this
then I'm wrong about everything.
But if I'm right
then what's going on with and to us
in senior ball brings the death
of our game.

I've been screaming for over a year now
that our bat/ball combo
has been driven down
without cause or regard for us
and OUR needs
by a small group of those
with other interests and families
to feed.
It' happening in broad daylight
and it's painful to watch and be part of
especially when we can still do enough
to save ourselves and our game.
They're watching.
We're watching to see what's next,
what the next steps should be
to bring about their desired ends.
They'll change the minds, their courses,
their values, compromise integrity
that may never have existed in the first place
to maintain control and guide us
to suit their ends.
It's a brutally clear picture
but sadly accurate and effective
and
we still can do something about it
if we want to and care.
Get involved,
ask questions
connect the dots,
follow the money
and say Hell, No
we won't back down and
we won't go quietly.

SSUSA has said repeatedly that
the new ball was not for use
this year.
Dave Dowell said the balls for this year's tournaments were already purchased.
Kevin Shulstrum said his ball,
his 275 x 52 ball is not meant for seniors and he should know what he's talking about.
Then why are they both going back on their word risking ridicule and criticism for "flipflopping" on us?
As business partners what common ground
do they share that would make this
"coming together" worthwhile?????????
Are they willing to lose senior support for some larger reward?
Hmmmmmmm.
That new ball will make tournaments run on time.
They'll use/have to purchase
less balls.
Kevin can corner the market
at least till the other ball manufactureres can catch up.
Hmmmmmmm.
I don't care one dog dropping
for whatever they want to do,
however much money they can make
if it had nothing to do with the demise of a game I love to play.
And that's my only objection.
They're messing with my game, our game
one they don't love or care about.

Lastly, for now,
this ball will be very unpopular
the older, slower and less skilled
the seniors become.
They/we won't be able to get enough pace on the ball to feel good or be effective when hit.
The good bat/ball combo
works very well with older slower guys.
The bigger stronger guys can overpower
a lesser ball
and still be somewhat effective
but weaker, slower, older hitters will not fair as well.
Maybe that's why there are no
weaker, older teams involved
in the tournament that Terry is using
to determine if his and his business associate Kevin's ball
can be pushed into senior play?
They can't argue with me
or what I'm saying because I'm on the right side of this argument
and they are not as it relates to seniors.

Hi Nancy, you're a doll.
Sounds like you had a great time
last weekend.
See you when you come west.

Joe, thanks. Yes, I was in my element. I love that park and tournament, but I just love softball in general. I just wish that I could play, but I do have my niche.

I do know the yellow senior Combat seemed to be the hot bat last weekend. The balls were good, but even though Worth makes a good ball, this batch had the covers peeling off. They were made in China, and all I could think of was paint chips and lead.
