When is old enough to shave?
Just got off the phone with the infamous
Stoneman and we were talking about
shaved/altered bats in seniors.
It's still my contention that they
are hardly present due to how much
pop they have but he thinks more and more guys are altering senior bats.
Is this really a problem in seniors?
I don't think so but what do you say?
What I DO know is that guys
want to hit balls fast and far.
It's a congenital condition
common to most ball players
and if you dumb down balls
and/or restrict bats
like ASA does/did
then you open the door to bat doctors
and illegal equipment.
Gary Tryhorn has said for years
that letting us use Ultra 2's
is the way to keep illegal bats
out of seniors hands.
Personally, I don't care about rolled
bats as they just help a bat break in
and don't alter its leverage point,
end load or wall thickness.
We want/need/deserve and will get
good bats/balls for seniors
and everyone needs to sit up, take notice and not do stupid things
to jeopardize the good time
had by all.

joe, rolling is illegal first off,and it does help a bat out by enlarging the sweet spot of a bat, that can't be done with bp.so when you go from a 4" SS(normal) to a 10" SS that makes a bat perform better on mishits when it shouldn't.and i would say yes, there is altered bats being used in senior ball, most are being endloaded tho.

Hey Robert,
You said there are altered bats being used
in Senior ball and most are end loaded?
How many or what percentage of all of us
would you say are using them?

einstein..........just look in the bat racks at the tournaments. Trumpball sells a lot of endloaded bats, eliminating the need to remove rods from U2's to make them endloaded.

I wasn't trying to trap you Robert
into saying anything incriminating.
I'm just curious as to what anyone thinks the percentage of seniors that use
illegal bats.
1, 10, 20 50 or more.
What do you think?
What does anyone think?
Sal.
I have always liked hitting Combats.
The more end loaded the better for me.

Dog.
It's GOOD balls and GOOD bats.
The drive to neuter them and us
has already taken us below the line
of enjoyment.
Like trying out that pathetic
52x275 ball in Oakdale, California
this year.
There's 5 teams worth of seniors
who said they'd never play another game
if that ball gets introduced.
Single wall bats x 47-525 balls
is what we don't want to go below.
My equipment doesn't have to be the hottest.
It needs to be good, real good.
(and it is).

My two cents.....There definitely is altered bats in "every" level of softball. People are looking for the "edge" and they are willing to cheat to do it! I am not against good equipment! But I will not quit if the ball or bat is not quite up to my standards and for those that threaten to quit........quit!!!

well my guess is that you don't want speed limits on our highways,b/c they make them safer, einstein.is that what you want.

Remember, Dog,
when the speed limit was lowered
to 55 mph because it would save so many lives and gasoline?
It did but was changed
back to 65 and 70.
Why?
Same idea.

Mad Dog (Bob), when I read your reply my thoughs were about the 55mph speed limit, just like einstein's.
I'm not against limits, just very, very low limits.
Remember when the speed limit was 55? How dangerous was it for you to be doing 55 and have someone pass you doing 80? We can compare this to us using ASA bats and some using doctored bats. Talk about dangerous!

Bruce,

I just think that some standard has to be applied that is reasonable. do not know what that is. I definitely like the feel of hitting with the senior bats, we just have to make it safer some how..

Quit???... Bull----!!!... That's a complete crock!... Some may not like it, but the vast majority would continue to play... You know that, and we know that!

not what i said,do away with all limits, not just stop at 65,70 or 75 in some states.i can the the limit now and still get passed by cars and trucks doing well over the speed limit.the 55 limit was put in to save gas not lives at the time it was instituted, then the ins company's got in on it.

ok now since this topic is on bad bats, what about bad players, aka steroids and HGH,etc.is that ok in our sport.

Here would be my opinion on Steroids etc. If someone wants to first break the law by taking a controlled substance without a proper prescription then they are breaking the law I do believe. And if some knucklehead wants to put junk in their system to hit a softball farther by all means knock yourself out.

Bob did you see George in Utah? I hit with him this past weekend he really looked good.

Absolutely not!!!! The additives have corrupted all sports and I am not talking about records. A number of people have sold their souls to hit a softball farther and itis crazy!! They have gambled on their health and some have paid with their lives. I lost one of my softball buddies a few years ago to the abuse of steroids!!

I would hate to see if Wally was at full strength. I observed Wally play in the Huntsman and Vegas the previous week. I have yet to see anyone hit one longer than the bombs he hit.

After the first two games played in Utah, they were moved to other diamond because they didn't want him to hit the kids while they were on recess.
