Safety First
Pitchers should wear protective equipment such as a mask, cup, and shin guards. It should be up to the pitcher, and if the pitcher gets hurt because the pitcher is not wearing this equipment, then it's the pitcher's fault. Soon pitchers will all wear protection. I base this statement on the evolution of batting helmet use in MLB. Before 1955 hardly anyone wore a batting helmet, then some players started wearing pots. Then all wore pots. Because of several serious injuries Conigliaro, Cey etc) all batters now have to use helmets with ear flaps.

Yes they should, IF they feel the need to. Those who don't shouldn't be forced to.

I agree, the protective equipment is available, wear it if you choose.

And that is my main point, Bruce. Certainly don't prohibit it, but definitely don't require it.
