Garocket-Riegal Rifles History
Garocket you bring back memories when you mentioned those Industrial teams.I played against most all of them and more...The big Industrial tournament held in Chattanooga in the 70's annually, was a showcase of whos who in the south and east coast. And they would put the scores and highlites in the newspaper each morning. Were you there?

Remember the Pic O Dixie? Many games were on the radio. When Howards and Dave Caroll played the fans would line the fences!
Was LeAlCo an industrial team?

No Bruce, the Le-Alco Storms were a Major Open Team from Lebanon Tn.Not far from Nashville. They had some BIG boys.I "think" that Windell Rickard & Jason Kindrick got their start with them when they were young.Probably the only person from Lebanon Tn.was the sponsor.....Pio-O-Dixie? That does comes to mind.I remember playing a team called "Rule Construction" in the finals of a tourney outside of Knoxville (Louden Tn) in about 77'. I think the said they had won the Pic-o-Dixie before. I had the pleasure of being introduced to Richard Howard once.Never forget it.I heard that the great Don Ardnt passed about 4 yrs ago.

I stayed in Lebanon this summer when we played in Gallatin. We played in the "pic" from 77-82 I believe. The local teams that did well there was BBQ Kitchen and B&S Construction.
It was great watching all the great teams play. I never got tired of watching the hrs!

Glad you guys brought up industrial ball. Just wondering if you might have played against a team out of Indy called Allison Transmission/UAW Local 933?
We played mostly NSA in the mid to late 80's. Had 5 runner ups but no championships in the open division.

When I played industrial ball in 73-77 I had no idea that there were larger tournaments on the state, region or national level. Back then our big tournament was the county championships!
I was amazed at the caliber of ball players at our first out of town tournament in Rome, Ga. It was called the Schlitz Classic and had local powerhouse Fair Oaks as well as the Carolina A's and East Tenn Mills. We played good, going 3 and 2.
To answer your question Corky, no, Chattanooga was the extent of out of town industrial play for me.

Corky-Like your input on Industrial ball.Talking about teams & tournaments from yesteryear is so much more refreshing than reading all of that rhetoric crap about balls...Yes I think I do remember Allison Transmission.I was with GE in Louisville. We had 2 teams at the same time that were ASA Industrial powerhouses(Wacos)& (Local 761)-70's & 80's...I also remember playing in the USSSA Indiana State in 79'& 80' in Anderson Indiana.Their local team (Delco Remy)was tough.
