First off, Congrats to Frederick/Turkey Hill on winning to 50 Major+ Bracket. It was a TOTAL team effort! Now for the second issue. This is a MAJOR issue. I played for Fredericks and I found something very disturbing. Before the championship game I found a cracked Ultra 2 leaning against the dugout fence. I wont say whose bat it was, other then I know it was from another team. Well, I brought it home and hit BP with it last nite until it broke completly in half, only to find that it was SHAVED! I was a machinist for 19 years and you could see the tooling marks from the lathe and the ridge where the tooling stopped! Unbelievable! Shaving Ultra 2's is insane! I just hope whose ever bat it was, they don't do it again and hurt someone!.

Striper you should minimum report this to SSUSA that is BS (Not on your part). There were only 4 teams in this division paints a really bleak picture for the other 3. From this end appreciate the heads up.

Lecak---No it does not paint a bleak picture for the other 3! If the first post would have presented more information, the rumor mill may have stopped there, or it would have permitted the accusations to not infringe upon the other team involved in the championship game. He does not say or may not know how long the bat was there. I played in the championship game also, and our team, Gekle Builders, had played the previous game. We were in the first base dugout and remained there to play the championship game against Fredericks. They were warming up behind the 3rd base dugout prior to our game. Stripersonline brought the topic to the board and we'll let him run with it.

Hey Swampy! I am one of the players on the Frederick team, I don't know anything about the Bat so i'm not going
to address it. I just wanted to say that it was great playing against you guys. Those were some great games. You guys really hit the ball! Love playing in thise games win or lose!
Good luck to your team in 2010!
Are you guys considering going to the TOC?

I was not there, but this smells funny to me. Usually the person that first says who farted? Or what is that smell? is the person that farted...I am just saying...additionally if you know that you have a shaved bat and it cracks...think about it...RU going to leave it behind or RU going to put in UR bag and hide it immediately...I am just saying.

Hey Paco13 I can guarantee you that the guy who posted this did not own the
bat. He don't need a shaved bat for one thing, the way he hits. And second
there's no way he would do it, he would
NEVER do that. Knowing him, No way it was his!

Maybe whoever left it behind screwed up by leaving it there?

I am sorry did not mean to say that he himself did it, but I would not be surprised that somebody from his team did. It just does not make any sense for a guilty player from other team to leave it behind, however it is possible. I am just saying. This is very serious, we can get hurt very seriously over the pride of hitting the ball 400+ when most of these guys can do it regardless. Sad very Sad.

Agreed, very sad. I mean why would anyone do that? It's just nuts! And
as for the safety issue, wow!

Also it was not one of the team's bats,
it was left there by some other team.

I KNOW it was not a bat owned by our team! And its impossible to say who left it behind because OTHER age groups used the same field! I'm not accusing ANY team! But I know I don't even own a Ultra 2 and never have. I'm sure the bat was laft behind by accident. Again, NO ONE on fredericks owned that bat! And I know it wasn't any of the Gekle guys too.

my question is what made striperonline think that he had the right to take it home?

So much for the claims that allowing special bats will eliminate cheating.

Now what other excuses are going to be made for needing special bats to do in your 50s what you might not have been doing in your 20s?

Important and serious discussion
and bat cheaters should be stopped
and punished but you gotta know
who the guy is, for sure.
Also, one or 2 or 7 cheaters
don't make an epidemic.
I don't know a senior player
who uses or would use an altered bat
and if they do shame on them
and let's catch 'em
and get punish 'em
but not everyone else at the same time.
Punishing the many for the very few
is never the right way to go.
Remember,
if we make hitting good balls with good bats impossible we make cheating
more likely and inviting.

We don't need a war against bat cheating
in the seniors.
We need effective police action.
That's an idea that has broad
implications for us all.

Not being a “bat doctor”, I wonder if we are giving too much credence to Striperonline on this bat. What do these bats actually look like when they come from the factory. Do the manufactures hone them to get to the desired thickness? Would that leave tooling marks?

As far as stealing the bat, it was left next to the trash can. It was cracked 1/2 around and the paint was new. Also the cap had a warranty stamp which lead me to believe something was "funny" about the bat. I was under the impression that Ultras don't come with warranties??? Also, I have thorough knowledge of how these bats are made. There is NO tooling marks or a ridge at the taper when they are origonally made. I have an extensive background in machining and extrusion. Some of you may not understand that, and I'm not knocking you for that. The wall thickness on those bats has a tight tolerance and this bat didn't meet that tolerance. Hmmmmm is right. I'm sorry I brought this up. Cheaters will cheat and the rest of us will play by the rules. I don't need to prove anything to anyone on here. Everyone is an expert in their own field of business. I'm sorry that mine is in the machining and extruding business. Enough said!

No offense, but if you knew so much about Ultras, you would realize that the W stamped into the end cap is standard and means "no warranty" or in cases of returnable bats, "no warranty due to one time replacement of original". I would not get too excited about shaved Ultras. They really would not benefit a hard hitter. They would be apt to overcompress and take away from a big hitters power. I would suggest you run a wall thickness and ask Miken directly, if this makes their specs before calling it shaved...should be easy to do with an extensive backround of machining. Good to have all the facts before we pointing fingers.

Your sorta wrong about the stamp. It means the bat is a replacement of a broken bat. But I don't believe the Ultras have any warranty. As far as your theory on shaving bats, you're completely wrong. A shaved bat of any type out performs any bat. Its a durability issue. That's why I thought it was kind of funny a bat that looked brand freakin new was cracked! That's why I broke it open. Our district ASA commisioner inspected the bat and agreed it was shaved. Again, enough said from people that have no clue about this issue.

The Ultra II at one time did indeed have a warranty. That was when they first came out though, which was what maybe 2003? The "W" stamp in the end cap means the bat was a warranty replacement bat. The Ultra II's of today with the senior softball logo on the handle do not have a warranty.
