If the Mayans are right!
Hey people, I think I have been watching far too many SyFy specials. Anyway, since a new year is upon us and resolutions are called for. Would it make a difference in our decisions if we really had only 3 more seasons of softball?!

Happy New Year and I pray that 2010 will be a great year for all.

Saw a funny (at least I thought it was funny) cartoon about that recently. One Mayan was standing at the door holding a calendar and talking to another. He said, "I ran out of room on the calendar after 2012." The other one said, "That is really going to screw people up in the future."

Of course, 1984 was supposed to be the end...then 2000. Not something I really worry about. Couldn't do anything about it, anyway.

In the news: Russians are considering
targeting a near-earth object. Actually
the object is supposed to pass close
with only a small chance of striking
earth in the next two passes. Let's
hope the Russians don't screw up! I'm
Polish and it's a good thing we don't
have a space program!

I sure have enjoyed my first 5 years of
senior softball! Looking forward to the
next 5, and the 5 after that, and...

The russians are involving about 5 countries in that asteroid deflection thing. The closest it is to come to earth is about 180k miles out and the other two passes are even further away. With the way things go chances are they would cause it to come closer, rather than away.
Maybe they could send up Obama & all of congress and drink some beer and throw the cans at it. Heck, crash into it, leave the heap of trash all over space.

Stever, I think you are correct; the cartoon is funny. I really wasn't trying to be an alarmist or a conspiracy-monger, just trying in a not so subtle way to challenge all to think seriously about New Year's resolutions.

Shane, hope we all have many more seasons of senior softball. Happy New Year to all.
