Calling All Hitters, PT. 3
I PICKED UP A SYNERGY + AND AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH IT AFTER 200+ SWINGS. WE USE A 44/375 BALL AND IT SOUNDS LIKE A WOODEN BAT ON CONTACT, NOT TO MENTION THE DISTANCE IS GREATLY DIMINISHED(COMPARED TO MY U2). MY TEAM TOLD ME TO STOP USING MY WOODEN BAT. I UNDERSTAND THE U2 AND ITS ABILITY BUT I THOUGHT THE + MIGHT COME CLOSE. HAS ANYONE HIT WITH THE MEGA MANIAC 585 YET? IS IT AS HOT AS THE U1 AND U2 ?

I don't think you will find any legal bat that will come close to the U1 or U2 in performance.
I now use the Freak Plus and really like it. We should be getting some 585's soon but as of now I don't know how they hit. Another bat you may want to try is the original Freak. The price of the Freak is going up but I think it is the best ASA approved bat.
Good luck!

THANKS BRUCE. I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I PLAY IN AN ISA LEAGUE. THAT'S WHY I WAS WONDERING ABOUT THE MANIAC 585.

I have hit the 585, the 484, and the 282. The 585 has a bigger sweetspot than the Freak Plus and the same distance or a little more depending on the hitter right out of the wrapper. It gets a little better the more you hit it. I really like the bat.

The 484 is the ASA bat and it will take 100 to 200 swings to start to warm up. It is better than the 98 but not the freak yet. The sweetspot runs the whole length of the barrel as does the 585.

The 282 has more flex in the handle and is not the 484 in distance but to me is better than the 98.

I was lucky enough to test these bats right out of the wrapper with the Miken guy and we put over 200 swings on each.

Kellys has the 585 and the 484 in stock right now . Just call him and please tell him I told you to call. He likes that.

THANKS FOR THE INFO, WALK. I READ A REVIEW WHERE ONE GUY SAYS THE 585 IS AS GOOD AS THE ULTRA AND THE U2. DO YOU AGREE? I KNOW RESULTS DEPEND ON THE TYPE AND SIZE OF THE HITTER

The sweetspot is as big as the Ultra or Ultra II but the batted ball speed is just a little better than the Freak Plus. For me it hits better than the UII but that is probably because I did not hit the UII that well. The bat was too balanced.

One note the heavier you go with these bats the better.

30 ounce is the heaviest weight these bats come in but that is better than a 27 ounce.

WALK I USE A 28OZ U2 AND ON A GOOD DAY I CAN CLEAR THE FENCE BY 10 TO 15 FT. WOULD I STILL GET THE SAME RESULTS GOING TO A 29 OR 30 OZ MANIAC? I UNDERSTAND BBS BUT IT'S THE DISTANCE I WANT TO MAINTAIN.

Your U2 is balanced and the Maniac 585 which is the hot one has a slight end load. I would look at a 28 or 27 in that model if you like the balance feel of the U2.

You should keep your distance once you get a 100 to 150 swings on the new bat. The 585 is not ASA legal so if you need the bat for that then go 484 Maniac and go with the 29. It will take a few more swings to break in the 484.

PS the sleeper bat of the new Mikens is the Maniac 282. It cost $200 NIW instead of $300 and has a flex handle. The bat has very good pop and only gets better with use. It is not the 484 at the start but I do think it will catch up with bp.

I am saying that it could be. I know the sweetspot is not as big but no one really knows. The bat is just now coming out and the one I hit was very good. Not the 484 but very good.
