March 10, 2010 Ho 301 posts | Been there, had the distinction in 1965 of having Eddie strike me out from second base....blindfolded. Would you stand in there when someone is throwing 100-miles per hour at you blindfolded. I just wanted to get the hell out of there. Just as amazing as the pitching were the arms of the outfielder/shortstop throwing 330-feet to home on the line. Still rememberthe "nickle" play also. Eddie was a tremendous individual, enjoyed being on the same field with him. Ho |

March 11, 2010 green rocket 51 posts | I remember a benefit celebrity softball game for UNICEF that he did which was televised on NBC in the 60's. They had chairman Danny Kaye in the broadcast booth. It was the Hollywood celebrities against major league ballplayers and after an inning or two, they slipped in the King without the MLB ballplayers knowing. I remember him striking out Wilie Mays and Ron Santo. None of those guys could hit him. It was great, and sneaky.... 8^) |
