July 10, 2005 LA 46 posts | Who do you think.......... are the best organizations for senior softball play?? I will give you my 2 cents or for whatever it is worth. I just got back from a SSWS(NASCS) qualifier in Cols.,Ohio.They were bickerning about the softball used from the 75 age group on down. We offered to put 2-3 teams in the qualifier but because under 5% of our players did not have their cards, they would not allow us in. These oraganizations tell us the cards are necessary for them to stay afloat!!! What do they have to offer us for the cards?? I have played several years in senior softball and each year it get more disappoinitjng. I feel that some of the organizations that are truly listening to the players are the SSUSA, SPA, and from what I have heard from others the LVSSA. We had an unfortunate incident with the SSWS World's last year and were unable to go as a team. NO REFUNDS. They will only carry it over to the next Worlds. Of course they stack their Worlds among the others giving us around 6 consecutive worlds in a row. So would you rather go to N.C., TEx., Mich, Va., or DesMoines ?? you make the call. As for R.B. with the ISF and ISSA, it has been spoken loud and clear about the softball being used. In the ISF they are still using the wihite leather ball which turns brown after the first inning. And then they use one new and one used ball each game. God forbid if your team fouls off two in a row. He also did NOT do an entry fee refund for a team that had to cancel the last minute because one of their players had major bypass surgery and for solidarity, they decided not to go. If these directors do not trust our word about going, that they make the fees non-refundable, then why should we trust them when once they get paid, the formats can change, the balls change, the number of umps/game can change, etc. All I expect from senior softball is to play the game that I have loved my entire life and create new Christian fellowhips each year. I wish that these organizations would PLEASE hear us players out and give us what we want. To start: good bats: good balls: same rules: All of this and more can create some good old fashioned softball. Have a safe and enjoyable season guys !!! |
July 10, 2005 Walk 192 posts | I would have to vote for the SSWS. Yes the ball is bad but at least they let all seniors play softball in their association. There is no regional rule that locks some players out. |
July 11, 2005 The Pro 81 posts | The three best, by far, is SSUSA, LVSSA and SPA. True Senior organizations that allow the best bats and use the best balls with the best awards for all levels and ages. |
July 11, 2005 Walk 192 posts | Pro, I would agree with everything you said but there is still that problem of not allowing certain players to play because of the regional rules and not allowing them to play down. I was told by SPA to trust them and they would work something out. Well it is July and nothing. SSUSA I am still waiting to hear from them and have been since Reno. The LVSSA won't even discuss the problem. There are only a few of us that fall into the hole and it would seem to me that a rule could be made that would allow us to play. It is great to have good softballs and bats but if not every senior can play then none of them are that great in my opinion. |
July 12, 2005 The Pro 81 posts | Walk - I agree that you and a few others (including our last year's 60 team) have been screwed by the regional rules. However, I have heard that has changed already according to an article in the latest SSUSA newspaper. I have not seen it but that was the information given to me. Maybe someone on this board can clarify it for us. |
July 12, 2005 MK39 Men's 50 333 posts | USSSA: 1.Same rules for all teams regardless of location. 2. The absolute best teams will show up for this one every year at Major Plus. 3.
