TO Brickyard Invitational Trn Teams,

I will be present at the Brickyard Invitational Tournament this weekend to help with player and team check-ins and registrations. Here are some things to be aware of with regard to this tournament:

RULES
 SSUSA rules will be followed with some exceptions .
 A 3-2 count, with no courtesy foul, will be used in place of the 4-3 count.
 All games will be played to a 50 minute time limit, and then the open inning. This includes championship games. (This precludes the usual 60 minutes for seeding games, 65 minutes for the championship round and no time limit for championship games.)
 70 minutes will be allowed for each game instead of the 90 minutes usually allowed.
 No equalizer rules will be used. The games used to determine bracket winners will match teams of equivalent skill levels.

Following are notes regarding each bracket.

WHITE BRACKET (50 Major Plus & 55 Platinum)
 All games will be played to Major Plus rules.
 50 Major Plus teams will play a seeding round followed by a single elimination championship playoff.
 The three 50 Major Plus teams will play each other plus play another two games each against 55 Platinum teams for four seeding games apiece.
 Seeds will be determined by 1.) overall record against each other, 2.) best record against the 55 Platinum teams, and 3.) the SSUSA tie breaking system.
 55 Platinum teams will play each other plus play another one game each against a 50 Major Plus opponent.
 The 55 Platinum champion will be determined by 1.) overall record against each other, 2.) best record against the 50 Major Plus teams, and 3.) the SSUSA tie breaking system.

GREEN BRACKET (50 Major)
 All games will be played to Major rules.
 Teams in this bracket will play a full round robin schedule.
 The 50 Major champion will be determined by 1.) overall record against each other, and 2.) the SSUSA tie breaking system.

RED BRACKET (50 AAA & 55 AAA)
 All games will be played to AAA rules.
 Teams in this bracket will play a full round robin schedule.
 The 50 AAA champion will be determined by 1.) overall record against each other, 2.) best record against the 55 AAA teams, and 3.) the SSUSA tie breaking system.
 The 55 AAA champion will be determined by 1.) overall record against each other, 2.) best record against the 50 AAA teams, and 3.) the SSUSA tie breaking system.

GOLD BRACKET (55/60 Silver)
 Games between the AAA teams will be played to AAA rules, all other games will be played to AA rules.
 Teams in this bracket will play a full round robin seeding round.
 Seeds will be determined by 1.) overall record against each other, and 2.) the SSUSA tie breaking system.
 The 55/60 Silver champion will be determined by a single elimination championship playoff.
 A consolation game will also be played for third place.

GRAY BRACKET (60 AA)
 All games will be played to AA rules.
 Teams in this bracket will play a full round robin schedule.
 The 60 AA champion will be determined by 1.) overall record against each other, and 2.) the SSUSA tie breaking system.

BLUE BRACKET (65 AAA & 65 AA)
 Games between the AAA teams will be played to AAA rules, all other games will be played to AA rules.
 Teams in this bracket will play a full round robin schedule.
 The 65 AAA champion will be determined by 1.) overall record against each other, 2.) best record against the 65 AA teams, and 3.) the SSUSA tie breaking system.
 The 65 AA champion will be determined by 1.) overall record against each other, 2.) best record against the 65 AAA teams, and 3.) the SSUSA tie breaking system.

The revised schedule (Rev. date: 04/29/10) for the Brickyard Invitational as been posted. There was a drop out of a 50 Major team (Dr. Vinyl) and the addition of a 55/60 Gold team (KC Kids).

• Starting times for teams in all brackets will remain the same or, in the case of the Green bracket (50 Major where Dr Vinyl dropped out), some will occur later than originally posted.
• The Red bracket has significant changes due to the addition of the KC Kids.
• The schedule shows some changes, for all brackets, later in the day on Saturday.
• Both the Green bracket and the Red bracket have a total revamp of their Sunday schedules. All other Sunday brackets remain unchanged.

TO Brickyard Invitational Trn Teams,

There were three events today that caused two revisions to the tournament schedule. The revisions are identified as an April 29 revision and an April 30 revision. The April 30 revision now constitutes the official tournament schedule. The events involved the following:
 The Dr Vinyl Classics (50 Major) team dropped out of the tournament reducing the Green bracket by one team.
 The KC Kids (60 Major) team was added to the tournament and was placed in the 55/60 Gold division in the Red bracket.
 The rating of the Mattingly’s Bar & Grill team was changed from 60AA to 60AAA. This resulted in transferring the Gray bracket teams to the Gold bracket and realigning the divisions in the Gold bracket. There are now five teams in the 55/60 Silver division and five teams in the 60AA division

TO Brickyard Invitational Trn Teams,

One other rule that will be utilized at this tournament, that is an exception to the SSUSA rules, is the flip-flop rule. The flip-flop rule will be used in the final inning if the visiting team is ahead by more than five runs.

It was brought to my attention that when scheduling the one cross over game for each of the 55/60 Silver and 60 AA teams, when they play each other, I paired both Blue Chips teams together and I paired both Dayton Legends teams together. The schedule at the tournament site will show different pairings. This will affect the Sunday schedule for all teams in the Gold bracket. All Gold bracket teams need to follow the Sunday schedule posted at the tournament site.

Steve,
Thanks for posting the data. I assume you are not running the tournament. Curious why the St Louis team in 55AA is playing the last two games on Sunday and the Indy teams are playing earlier. Thanks.

Steve,
Regarding the number posted to call for playing conditions:
(317) 875-8833
Is this a recorded message that I should instruct all my teammates to call? I don't want a person flooded with calls.
Unfortunately, the weather forecast looks like the fields may be flooded.
Any chance this tourney could be cancelled?

Steve, The Gold Bracket was changed to 10 teams for no apparent reason and combined 55AA, 60AA, and 60AAA. When a 60AAA team played a 55AA team, the AAA home run rules should have been used rather than that of AA. A 5 year difference more than makes up for the rating difference. I continue to be puzzled by the lack of reasoning with regard to some decisions made by the powers that be.
