Our team, Miken/Old South/Lill went 2-0 in rr play. We were the only undefeated team of 7 in pool play. We play today (Sat) at 12:30pm against the winner of Crush and the # 6 seed. This is 50+ Maj Plus.
In 50 Maj, Kittrells are 3-0 in double elem play, one win being against Travellodge.
AMI in 55 Maj is 1-1 in double elem play.

I watched Huffman Electric eliminate the Texas Legends in the 60 Major division.

Thomas Engineering was leading the Old A's in 60 Major +when I left, but the Old A's were coming back.

Bruce, I thought I was going to get to watch your team, but found out that your bracket was playing in McKinney. Good luck in the rest of teh tournament.

Steve, Thermco 0-2. Thats 2 and Q. High caliber 50 major plus teams showed up in Plano. Was not a 2 team walk over like Manassas. Should even be a stronger field of 50 major plus in Hutchinson KS for the USSSA next month.

You might want to try Stafford Sales i think from Ohio. They are a high caliber major plus team, Another team close to you would be Direct Hire from Indiana or Pine Knob out of Mi. or Ploog Construction from Mn.
Good luck and have fun in Senior Softball 2006.

Schones is another good team, we saw them in Panama city beach last year. The Motown Stars are some really good guys and i played a 45 + with some of them back 3 years ago.
I would suggest calling Senior Softball USA at (916) 326-5303 and let them know that you want to get in touch with those managers to see about playing on there squad.
good luck

The SPA did it right! The best torunament I've seen for the following reasons: Good quality balls and during the game when more were needed - three new balls were immediately brought in; 2 umpires per game; time limit only on Round Robin - no time limit on Double elim round and games were given a two hour time slot; unlimited scoring per inning; three HRs with 1 up but singles after; and, good field conditions. All other Tourn directors - take note. This is the best example of a tournament being geared for the players and it showed. So Manassas, Glen Burnie, and Des Moines try to open your mind for improvements. Nice job to the umpires and the director.

The Las Vegas Stars beat us Saturday night and then Crush beat us Sunday morning.

Btw Mike, its Georgia Crush, not Florida Crush. They are now based out of Georgia. Bruce Meade retired a year or two ago. They did have Charles Wright.
Another note, there was a protest of one of their players because of residency reasons. Ridge disallowed it, saying the player qualified under a snowbird rule. I don't think this is over yet.

Great tournament with good bats, balls. officiation and fields. Steve Simmons did a great job running the 50+ M P division.

Mike, we aren't going to Kansas. Our schedule for the rest of the year include the NSA Nats in Alabama, the ASA Nats in NC, the WSL Nats in Panama City, the ISA Senior Major Super Worlds in Polk Co. Fl, and maybe some 40 and 45 nats in the southeast.

I guess that was that was pitching, wearing the blue and white stripe Boombah's. He remarked that he also used a Vinci glove as I do.
I wanted to wear my Boombah's but was over ruled by my wife. I have the Bulls, black with red and white pen stripes.
I am trying to get our guys away from grey pants!!!

Yup Mike wears those fancy blue striped boombahs all right.
I know that he got a 15 inch Rawlings glove from Einstein off of my team. Heard Vinci also makes a good glove. Tell you what, he is all around the best Pitcher/Hitter in Senior Softball period.
IMO
Have a great year.

Bruce; Boombahs!!! 2 reasons we probably will not go with them; I am go fat that the stripes would be too wide causing massive optic damage to those that gaze too long; # 2, a guy on our team is so skinny that they could only make one stripe for his boombahs. By the way met the Pro: great guy from Kidz4Ever.

MK39, you should have played in Plano. Player's residency doesn't matter. This spring most of Crush played in the SSWC/ISA Springnationals as a Florida team. Now they are a GEORGIA team. When we questioned the residency of one of their players, he didn't have a Georgia driver's license. He also admitted to only living in Georgia for 3 months a year. ( I really doubt that also) Even though the SPA rule book says that players must show driver's license Ridge approved this player.
Sorry to hijack your thread Steve. I'll start one on this.

I had to choose between attending an event where i felt that we were being desriminated against and i chose to boycott it this year. According to everything i am hearing now, it looks like Ca. and Fl. will be open next year like everyone else and i would love to have a chance to win a 2nd ring in plano next year.
Good luck with Ridge??

The desire to win rings in senior softball and the illegal use of painted and shaved composite bats have changed the game to a place where it is becoming a nightmare at times.
I am all for stiffer penalties like a lifetime suspension for any one caught using an altered bat or for lying in order to build a stronger team bt manipulating border rules or loopholes like a so called snowbird rule that no one has access to a list???
Welcome to the crazy world of senior softball.

Wow, i see you have been doing battle against these lousy bat doctors and cheaters for quite awile on softball fans. i also see that they like to gang up instead of old school 1 on 1. What else would you expect from that kind of person???
Your a good man who speaks up for what he believes is right and it will be my pleasure to someday meet you on the ballfield.
Take care

Don't know about the rule for SPA guys but the snow bird rule for SSUSA states you just have to be in the state you claim for 90 days.

My new job will do this for me and I have filled out the paper work but as of yet I have not received any word. I was also promised by SPA that something would be done about my forced retirement but as of this date nothing has been done.

I would bet $100 if I was the player in question the results would have been different.

PS While I do not know about the GA and FL thing I will say this what are some guys suppose to do?

Some of us do not have Major or Major Plus teams in our region and by rule cannot play AAA so what is our recourse? To become snow birds at a great expense or retire! I thought senior softball was for seniors to play ball not be retired by these petty rules.

They should have left you and anyone else in your situation alone as an exemption player. They then should have a list of players such as yourself and what team you decided to play on or to let us try and pick you up for the year. Instead they allow anyone to say they live in some other state for 90 days and take there word for it???
How about a PG&E bill in there name for 3 months or something like that. Snowbird is a loophole for manipulating the system and giving special treatment only when the TD feels like it and it just is not right. If they want to have a snowbird make a snowbird list in advance for all managers to either agree with or challenge.

If your state doesn't have a Major or Major Plus team you should be able to play with the closest one.
The snow bird rule has too many loopholes. I don't know what the solution is. I do believe there should be some kind of proof of your dual residency.

Mike and Bruce,
I could not agree more with you. I have heard there are only 5 or 6 players like myself that are in this situation and one would think those 5 or 6 could be exempt.

Don't let them all play on the same team. As you say make a list and then allow them to play with only one team and only one of them but this is wrong. I can't play with a region team because they play only AAA around here and I am a major plus player.

I can't play out of my region because of the new rules and the newest rule does nothing to address this. So this summer and many more to come I am afraid I get to play league softball at best.

I am told that one of the association heads believe that one player cannot force a team to move from AAA to Major then if this is true how can one Major Plus player who has no where to play in his region make a Major or Major Plus team that much better.

I also understand that the 70+ does not have regional rules so if things continue as they are I guess I will see you guys at the tournaments around the country in 14 years. That is a long time to wait and a lot if good years of ball playing gone to waste.

Your Driver's License should determine your resident. If you go to another state, get another license. Snowbird rule is total garbage & all Fair Senior Players should hit the senior summit hard at the next meeting that the roster address should match the Driver's License.

Who did you play with in the 40's and 45's.
I played with the Ca. Burgers, now Ca. Rebels through most of the 40's and Dan Smith and Reed Masters through most of the 45's. We might have played agaisnt each other then. I went to every national from 1994 on to 2000, slowed down with a knee surgery and went back to indianna for the 45's in 2003.
Any hits there
let me know
Pine knob or Stafford Sales or Ploogs out of mn. i dont think Schones wants to play major plus.
