June 18, 2010 big mike 24 2 posts | Slideing at the HOME PLATE Man we were in a close game on Sunday, there was a play at home. of course the play was going to be close, but the throw was off, the catcher had to run wide left to get the ball , on the way back the runner saw it was going to be a close play and slid knocking my catcher feet from under him. Tournament Director and umpire call the man safe, my catcher have cracked ribs. I may be wrong, but the RULE STATE YOU CAN NOT SLIDE AT HOME PLATE! They didn't call the player out and the run counted... That sucks, if you make a rule, then follow it!! |

June 18, 2010 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | You might want to check the rule for that under what ever assn it was run under. Some still allow it depending on age group. Here is something related. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7iIg21UDkg&feature=fvw |

June 18, 2010 jc24 96 posts | Someone correct me if I'm WRONG...but, ISF,SSUSA,ISA,SPA, I'm sure I've missed an Assoc...but, U CAN NOT SLIDE INTO HOME or FIRST. U have 2 home plates for all above mentioned ASSOCIATIONS. U have to use the 2nd home plate to cross, if u touch regular home plate U ARE OUT, u have to cross the ORANGE bag on a play to 1st base or u can be called out. I can't believe someone slid in a Senior's tourney and was called.. SAFE!!! If I'm all wet here, CORRECT ME!!! I can take it!! haha.. Jerry Carter Dayton Legends 55s #24 |

Don't know about SPA or other organizations. 8.5 SLIDING — OPTIONAL Sliding or diving into first base or the Scoring Plate is not permit- ted, and such players will be called out. However, a player may slide or dive into second and third bases and when returning to any base, except the Scoring Plate or Scoring Line. |
