opening the borders for Fla and CA help or hurt
With the new rules opening up the borders for Fla and Cailf help or hurt senior softball? I personaly think it will help form more teams here in the south in major ball but maybe hurt lower divisions.

No doubt i agree with your opinion on it helping to build the Major division up
BUT
how do you figure it would hurt the lower divisions????
We would not be pulling those players to begin with.
I will tell you that there are a ton of California players with burnt bridges that could get a fresh start with a Nevada, Az, team etc.
How about in your region, know of any guys who can't or won't play for Ga. teams but could get picked up and be happy on a florida team or vice versa.
What is good for the goose is good for the gander and this is simply a great rule and a fair rule and a long overdue rule for all levels of senior softball, period.
Interesting that you bring this up knowing how hard i fought for it and that i even had legal teams research it for fairness and they had it labeled as being descriminatory???
Please share with us your real motive for bring it up and putting it out there in this manner??
Thanks

I for one do not like it. I play on a 55 Major team that is all local and good friends. We are well aware that we have a great team. But we have won some titles and been forced to play Major plus. We found ourselves to not be competitive there. It almost broke up our team. We refuse to get into that problem of dropping our friends for the headaches of the better but sometimes cancerous player. Now with the Major plus teams being stronger this is not something I look forward to at all. How does this rule work for a team like ours where we just want to play with our good friends? We are forced to be cannon fodder or not play. I can see how this new rule benefits you and a few others. But hurts all the rest. Why should other teams be forced to play against you.
Why don't you just have Senior Pro softball. Let us just have fun.

Your statement,
We are well aware that we have a great team. But we have won some titles and been forced to play Major plus. We found ourselves to not be competitive there. It almost broke up our team. We refuse to get into that problem of dropping our friends for the headaches of the better but sometimes cancerous player.

What is your solution for teams that do win world titles.

Should you just be left in that same division to keep winning and not giving lesser then yourself teams a chance at winning???

I say that if you win any World or National title, you should be good enough to at least try the next level higher and if you really tried but can't compete , you request in writing to be dropped back down to the previous level.
You make it sound like it is all about fun with your friends but you do put winning in there as the first priority and sometimes in softball you can't have it both ways.
Don't be affraid of competition, we are all men and anyone can beat anyone unless you admit defeat before the game even starts.
Thanks

MK, since you read more into my comment than I had ever planned on saying. We did win and moved up as expected without any complaint what so ever. The second year we did petition to be re-classified and were refused. We played up for two years and tried very hard to compete. Fortunately when we moved up to the next higher age division we escaped this circumstance. The competition did not scare us as you put it. It just was not fun. We are still a 75 mile team and feel it is hard to compete with national teams. We realize that is our choice and just our tough luck. But then we did not lobby for rule changes as you did either. We will continue to play the game with what ever hand we are dealt. But we are allowed to say we are not overly happy with it.
Since you read more into my statement than I did. I will read some into yours. This was a question that was put out there for any to answer and give opinions. I did and you seem upset and go to the redundant attacking of the manhood of the lessor teams in your post. I am sure I speak for my team and say that we could not care less what you and your team do. But in this case with your resources behind you, you were able to get rules changed and force it down the throats of others. We have never even considered doing something like this. But then we do not ride the high horse that you do.

It has nothing to do with the high horse or the resorces i have available.

I fight for what i believe is right, that is how simple it is for me and if you knew me then you would know that to be true.

I beleive you when you say you moved up and gave it a shot.
I also said that after giving it a shot that a team should be allowed to petition to be moved back down.
The fact that they did not allow you to move back down makes it your argument with them not with me.
What i am saying is that i can't fight all the wrongs that are being done in senior softball but i sure will stand up and fight for the issues that adversly efects me and my team.

I am not trying to get personal with you and i am glad you explained in greater detail what your team had to go through in the past. Sounds like a bad deal.

Good Luck in the future.

Honestly there is no right or wrong answer to this question, except for an influx of new players turning 50 around the country, things won't change as many guys turn 55 and move up,it hurts the 50 major division. Our team Damons Grill for example won the world series a couple years ago with a AAA team,I was the only player that wasn't on there league team,we moved up and had some success,as our players got older, many played for Fergies,it depleted our talent base, the same is thing is now happening to Thermco, and without them and Damons you've lost 2 pretty good softball teams in the upper division, with great sponsors. The year before I turned 5O Dan Smiths in Calif. had at least 6 players from the east on there team, which also is not good for the game, yes open the borders but limit the amount of players that can be acquired from out of state.Isn't the real question whats best for the game in totality? Most organizations really don't care much for the major divisons of softball on any level, young or old,its about money because theres fewer teams, therefore less money, and its all about $ believe that.So open the borders, and limit the number of players you can acquire, make the winners on lower levels move up,but you'll never get these organizations to agree on anything, but they need to find a common ground, for the benefit of the game.
