Jan. 1, 2011 Tater50 Men's 60 336 posts | 2011: Ways to Save in SSB!!!! This economy is tough!!! I am going to play SSB; w/the Good Lord's help. I've noticed MadDog speak about getting deals on hotels; maybe he can expound on his format; what other ideas do you have to save money before, during or after a SSB tourney? 1. I carpool w/someone to the tourneys. 2. Most hotels have breakfast every morning: I love eggs, bacon, sausage; so I get a few extra & place in the fridge. Eggs are one of the best snacks for "me" to curb my hunger. I like peanut butter; another great curb for hunger. 3. Go to Big Lots/Dollar Stores for canned goods for snacks. 4. Room w/someone & reuse the hotel towels & tell them not to resheet: may not seem like much, but maybe??? 5. I'm a gregarious type of person, but I rarely eat out: breakfast $5; lunch w/tip $8-10; dinner w/tip $10-15....that's $25-30 X 3 days; close to $100. 5. I try not to buy every SSB bat that comes out; that's just me. Any other thoughts that you have to save on tourneys? Tater50 |
Jan. 1, 2011 turn2 489 posts | John, If you take your wife or girlfriend you can try priceline.com. I have save a lot of money doing this. The downside is you pay up front and there is a no cancel policy unless you buy insurance. If you know you are going this is not a problem. I have save as much as $60-$100 on a three day tournament. Also, this is staying at a 3 star hotel instead of the Days Inn. Later Donnie Turn Two |

Jan. 1, 2011 Gary19 Men's 50 2609 posts | John, like I mentioned before the economy is not my problem but the three kids going to college next year. :( But I do items 1, 2, 5, and 6 from your list. This isn't golf, I only need one club in the bag. :) |
Jan. 1, 2011 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | my way of looking is to go to the other travel sites(hotwire, orbitz, expedia, etc) and see what they have for prices, than go to priceline and check their buy it prices, than go bid about 1/3 off that or lower than hotwire as they are usually pretty low.most of the time i start at $25. |
Jan. 1, 2011 turn2 489 posts | John, We are out of Virginia. You can still get the rooms off of priceline but you don't know if it is a king or 2 queens. After I get my conformation I will call the hotel and get it changed to 2 queens. It is usually my dad and I in the rooms. Donnie |
Jan. 2, 2011 mad dog Men's 65 4191 posts | turn2,yeah that is the only prol sometimes, but i usually travel with momma so it doesn't matter for me. |
Jan. 2, 2011 stick8 1991 posts | Go to www.corplodging.com to acquire a check inn card. With this card you can get over half off lodging at selcted hotels. I recall going to Virginia for the ISSF nationals and the room was $125/night. With the card it was $56/night. |
Jan. 2, 2011 coop3636 514 posts | When you uses priceline or hotwire and you need two beds, mark 3 people in room. They will automatically give you a room with 2 beds. Just a little trick to use. Coop3636 |
Jan. 2, 2011 garyheifner 649 posts | Once you have booked the motel you want, don't just forget about it. If you booked well in advance, call about once a week and ask what the current rates are. My team has saved as much as $20 to $30 a night by checking back over and over. Many of them will reduce rates when they have a weekend coming and a lot lot of empty romms. |
