April 12, 2011 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | Brickyard is Getting Closer I have been getting excited about the Brickyard since it is less than a month away. I talked with the office, and they already have about half as many teams as we usually see here in Indy which I think is a great sign. Is anyone playing at the small tournaments in Indy or Illinois (Champaign?) this Saturday to get some swings in? It has been 7 long, cold months here, and softball season seems long overdue. |

April 15, 2011 garyheifner 646 posts | With the men's play moved back a week to May 7-8, maybe we can avoid rain and/or cold weather. If my memory is not totally gone, seems like we have had less than great weather for this tourney. Looking forward to starting our season. Jealous of you southern guys who play year round. |
April 15, 2011 jimjoes-gman Men's 55 80 posts | Champaign on Sat. the 16th. Extended weather report is very dismal for that day. I dont think that Chi.Prime 55's can make it. |

April 20, 2011 Corky Men's 55 451 posts | Nancy..........How many 60AAA teams are registered for the Brickyard so far?? I might try to play with the 55's as well if there are no conflicts. (at least drink their adult beverages) |
April 20, 2011 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | I do not think either small tournament happened. The one in Indy only had a couple of teams not to mention bad weather, and Champaign had worse weather but more teams. It is too bad that they picked the same weekend. If enough teams would like to have a round robin before the tournament, let me know, and I am sure that we can find a park here to accomodate, or maybe someone has a location in between. I know the guys from Kentucky have been looking for a few swings since the Derby is the same weekend as the Brickyard. JC, Senior Softball has completely taken this tournament for their own which we are very excited about. Make sure to call the office 916-326-5303 to enter, and give them your time request as they will be doing the brackets. Dave is currently scheduled to be the tournament director, and this will be his first visit to the facility. Corky, all the entries are in Sacramento. I know that there are almost 30 teams so far, but I do not know how many of each age group yet. Historically the biggest percentage of the teams are 50/55 Major/Major Plus which has always been awesome to see here, but there have always been enough teams to keep all divisions competitive. Hopefully it will be the same this year. I will let you know as soon as I know. The turf diamond is no more. The field is there, but the asphalt and astroturf are gone. Also since this is Senior Softball's tournament, it will be straight up; so some of the rules that Timmy had that were not real popular will be gone. This qualifier started here in 2000, and I think that it is a very positive move to make it the best tournament that it can be. |
