WHAT'S THE NUMBERS
This is to the staff. Can you give us a ball park figure on how many posters ID and don't ID?
Thanks

Over 80 per cent of the POSTS made on the site
in any thread are from posters who have identified themselves
one way or another to us and our community.

There is NO requirement to provide any personally identifying information to be a member of this Message Board. The ONLY requirements are that the applicant have an active e-mail account at the time they verify their application, thus enabling their posting privileges, and that they adhere to the (only) four posting rules that govern acceptable content.

Approximately 75% of the registered users do NOT formally ID on their personal page, which is perfectly acceptable. With almost 60,000 posts in the Message Board database, it is impossible to accurately determine how many active posters (or the percentage of same) may provide such information in the body of their posts. Any guestimate as to the percentage of ID'd posters in the active threads is irrelevant data.

mmm jeff i was able to edit mine a while back,i took my last name off for personal reasons,didn't want my name out there for scammers to come along to use for identity theft.it might be something new they have instituted.

personally i do know what your name is by you putting it in a thread,but guess what,i wouldn't know you from adam,still....i don't care if anyone posts a name or not,that is not important to me,it is whats posted by the poster,not who their name is.so these people who say your nothing b/c of not putting info for people to see are some of the same people,NO INFO IN THEIR PROFILE.

I've been trying to edit my profile since day 4 after signing up. Emailed the problem, they indicated they could not help me and said once it was save, no way to change it. I thought it was kind of lame being they have an edit button to do so, but it does not work.

Unbelievable that einstein would once again revisit this topic of anonymity after I destroyed his arguments two years ago with the facts. Back then, einstein was also claiming that 80% of posters were “known posters”. It was a ridiculously wrong statistic then, and is still wrong, even more so with the new information from SSUSA.

Now SSUSA reports that 75% of registered users do NOT formally ID themselves. That is 75%, as in only 25% do identify themselves, not 80% as einstein claims without substantiation.

Then einstein claims that maybe 75% are anonymous, but of those who post, 80% are known posters. Wrong again.

Gary, you can do what I did back in 2009 when this issue came up (einstein was flaming at all the anonymous posters, including me, with extremely disparaging name calling). What I did was take the previous 100 posts and wrote down all of the nicknames. Then I looked up the posters individually and determined who was anonymous, and who identified themselves.

The result? Only 42% identified themselves; 58% of the posters (not just readers) did not identify themselves. Even those who identified themselves were often anonymous in the sense that “real name J” could be one of dozens of such persons who play softball.

It took a lot of time to do this, but I was irritated by einstein’s 80% claim. His only response was to say that “he knew them all”, which is hard to refute. Evidently, einstein is psychic and he can know a name when no one else has a clue.

Hard to argue with that, but the other 99% of us still have no idea who billcoo or Ho or southernson is, and my point is: who cares? I am here to discuss softball and offer opinions and enjoy other perspectives (including einstein’s) so what does it matter who the poster is. In fact, knowing the poster is Rich Fischer, for example, (on here as RIK56) doesn’t help me because I still have no idea of whether that person is a longtime player, major plus player, AA player, etc., and I don’t really care.

Of course SSUSA welcomes the anonymous posters on this Message Board—they are the vast majority!

einstein now claims he knows 80 posters (not 80% of all who post), or maybe he just knows the names of three or four guys that make up 80 posts. That I believe; he has been around a long time and traveled a lot, so he probably does know 80 of the posters in a year's time, and even I know the real names of those who made 80 different posts.

That still leaves 75% anonymous registered potential posters and 58% anonymous actual posters (at least anonymous to the 99% of us who don't have einstein's wide circulation).

Just as an exercise, I picked three names from a recent thread: billcoo, Ho, and southernson. Maybe einstein could tell us something about each one: not their names, because they chose to remain anonymous, but their ability, level of team they play on, that kind of thing to demonstrate that he knows them all.

Checking this thread so far
we have 18 posts and 15 are by identifiable or 84%.
Check almost any post as I have many and you'll see
that over 80 per cent of the posts are by known contributors.
That was the point I made then and now
and it's obviously still true that
most of the posts made on this site
are from known/identified members.
Why do most regular contributors
identify themselves?
That the question and the answer is
fundamental accountability and respect.

who are the identifiable posters.

by this,you are saying everyone who has posted knows all the others.

i know and have met only 1 poster on this thread.......

there are only 7 posters here

staff = 1 post = no name
einstein = 5 posts = info
maddog = 6 now 7 posts = just first name/town
omarKhayyam = 2 posts = no info
E4/E6 = 1 post = info
garyc = 2 posts = no info
pricer = 3 posts = no info

so by checking everyone out here is how it breaks down we have 6 posts total with people who have complete info,and that is by 2 people(5 posts which are by you).where do you get this stuff from.

you sure your not a used car salesman,or snake oil peddler........

on just about any thread are from
known posters who have either given info or have defined themselves
in some accountable way with email or phone numbers.
By the way, OK.
Ho identified himself a couple of times with his phone number.

The laws of accountability in man to man interactions
are deeply embedded in us from our culture.
We are more credible, respected and respectful
when we identify ourselves.

Oh, now I get it. einstein knows those who frequently post. Let’s take the most frequent recent posters and see if EVERYONE can know them from information they reveal:

Here are those with more than 150 posts total, who have posted in the last week:

einstein (tops with 2931 posts), mad dog, BruceinGa, Dbax, Lecak, the wood, Webbie25, stick8, DoubleL10, E4/E6, Omar Khayyam, Gary 19, Jawood, Duke, southpaw, surf88, turn2, kbl, softball4b, gary c, Airbosn, Enviro-Vac, hitt2, Tater50, LP, curveball, hitman, LP, DMac, Capt Kirk, Pricer, JBTexas, and DCPete.

Of those 32 posters, 16 (or 50%) have NOT identified their real name! I’m sure einstein will claim that he knows 27 of them (his 80%), but for those of us not so fortunate that have to rely on the official SSUSA site for identification, we know only 50%. And by know, we just know their real name, not necessarily know them in person or have any idea of their capabilities or expertise or knowledge of the game.

I agree that I remember that a few of the 16 (Ho is not one) have identified themselves in some way over time, perhaps by listing their phone number or email address, but who (other than einstein it seems) keeps track of all those fleeting references?

Doubt my statistics? Look them up yourself. It takes a couple of hours. Yeah, I know, I’m an anonymous nobody and I have nothing else to do. LOL Well, no more back and forth now, I'm off to the gym.

You are either being obtuse, OK
or recalcitrant.
I have always and only said that
the number of posts not posters reveals that
over 80 per cent of them are from identified and identifiable
men who understand and chose to be accountable as men are want to do in and of the culture of western civilization
which can be argued is rapidly becoming something of an oxymoron.

OK, Sad Dog and the rest.
You are sadly wrong about what I said and have been all along.
You may say as SSUSA has said that what I observed
is not the way they'd appreciate us to look at it
but so what.
That's just their opinion and take on it
for whatever reasons they might have.

Let me say it again
LOUD and CLEAR.
Well over 80 percent of all discussions on this site
are from members who are known and identifiable.
It might be the same guys 20 times as is often the case
but the GREAT majority of posts,
which is what I have ALWAYS said, is from
identifiable members who chose and know the value
of fundamental respect and accountability
in responsible human relationships.

einstein thinks I am recalcitrant and it is true that I am stubborn when the facts are on my side. Now einstein's latest argument is that he never said 80% of posters were known, just 80% of the posts were by known guys. If that's the case, then my argument above about the most FREQUENT posters, where only 50% choose to identify themselves, is still valid. What makes these men frequent posters? Because they dominate in posting comments. They are the ones that post "20 times" and they are half anonymous.

But to add on more facts, let me review what einstein has actually said in the past:

December 25, 2009
Here's another majority opinion, Robert.
Over 80 per cent of the guys who post
let us know who they really are.

December 26, 2009
Most of the guys on this site,
Robert, this one, 80 per cent or so
all say who they are and that's what I was talking about.

January 19, 2010
80 per cent of the guys who post here
are known guys whether they post their
info in the profile or not.

January 28, 2010
Again, 80 per cent of the guys who post on this site are known members of the community which displaces
your 50 something percentage of posters
who didn't 'sign in.

Does that sound like einstein is referring to posts? Since einstein is a former English teacher, I think he is perfectly capable of making himself clear, and in these samples, again and again, he says "posters", not posts.

Probably time to drop this thread as it must be either exhilarating for some to see einstein proved wrong, or boring to the majority to see this topic continue. Thanks, SSUSA, for the reaffirmation of anonymity and noting that 75% of all posters and potential posters took advantage of this option.

You guys are great-just like watching the Democrats and the Republicans! They absolutely HAVE to disagree. I bet if the House came out with a resolution that the sky is blue-the Senate would vote it down and introduce a resolution that the sky is green. Then CBS would take a poll and decide that 42% of voters agreed with the Republicans and 45% agreed with the Democrats and 13% were undecided.
I'm actually trying to figure out why it is so important to know the exact percent of posters that ID themselves.
By the way, I have only met one guy on this thread-mad dog. We may not agree, but I found him to be a nice guy. I still owe you a beer, Robert.
