JAN. 2012 HELP
JUST WONDERING WHERE SOME TEAMS ARE PLAYING IN JAN. 2012. WE [GSF] ARE GOING TO PLAY 55'S OR 60'S, DEPENDING HOW MANY TEAMS ARE IN EACH DIVISION. WE DON'T CARE WHO WE PLAY, WE JUST WANT TO PLAY. SCSSA? SCSST? SSUSA?

Try Menifee, Ca tourney 7-8 for 60's or 14-15 for 55's.
Stay in Hemet where motels are very reasonable. About a 20 to 25 minute drive to the ball park in Menifee. Put on by SSUSA.
Know it's about a five hour drive for you but it's a good tourney and park. Get more info from Don Redigg. Weather usually good there for some reason.Donnie will give you the best info about what divison and date would best be good for you.

Ron,

How r u, I understand its been a little cold their in Arizona.

Looks like both Marv and Donnie are having tournaments on the same day and in the same city (Hemet). All this does is dilute the number of teams and level of competition. I wish the tournament directors would think more about the teams and having full/competitive events versus scheduling events on the same dates.

See you in Hemet,

Phillip

Phililp I totally agree with your statement. Our schedule has been on line since late July 2011. long before any other schedule was ever posted. Rob if the 65s want to play on the weekend we have room. BTW Its not on the same day in the same city. That's where all the confusion is I believe.

Hey Crusadervb,

I assume you are talking about my new team, when you asked about "Double Something" We are still short players. While I am all for teams stengthening themselves, there are only about 12-14 60 Major Plus teams. These teams are picking up most of the available talent, which leaves us with not many, if any, 60 Major Plus players to obtain right now. We will continue to look for players, but will not settle for less than what we need to compete against the loaded teams. If that means that we need to play another year of 55 Major, then so be it. Maybe we can borrow some of your players. LOL!
BTW, what every player is asking me, is are we sponsored? Since we are not, it is making it even tougher to acquire players, with the limited amount available. That is where we are at for now. Maybe we can find some players in other States, if they repeal the bordering rules. Most of the players that we were trying to get from bordering States, have all hooked up with the nearby States. We are only at 7-8 players at this time, with no SS, 1-2 outfielders, and one pitcher that wants to pitch.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All!!

One thing hasn't been thrown into the mix is the fields. Menifee is a semi open field configuration with 3-300' fences and #4 with a short porch of 280'. Hemet is fully closed fields covered dugouts and 3-325' fences with the 5 additional fields of 300'. Add into the mix complex home run rule vs a simple 1 up / single.

Crusadervb, We were already planning on entering Menifee as an "exhibition" team, so players could see what our team is all about, and we could get our 5-6 games in. Then nobody will need a release. I already asked Donnie and SSUSA a question, since we will be an "exhibition" team, could we add a couple of 55 players, so we could field a team. I received no answers. Maybe Marv's tournament will let us enter as an "Exhibition" team with 1-3 55 players, and play our 5-6 games. I assume it would be fine with all of the teams, since we will get an automatic loss? It would be less expensive for our team at this time, because we would not have to pay for the yearly team registration. Marv, let me know if this is OK please.

Thanks,

Andy Smith,

Andy I will defer to our Tournament Director Jerry Smith. As a independent Association we never say never but it will depend on who and who else is in and willing to let you play as exhibition. I'm pretty certain SSUSA rules don't allow for this at qualifiers. If they do you still have to turn in rosters of all competing teams. The insurance waiver alone demands that. So far we have twelve 60s(AAA to M+)that have paid, RSVP'd or are in the decision making process. And I haven't heard from everybody yet. Do you have Jerry's number?

Ron,
Master Collision will not be in Menifee (we won't be out of hibernation yet). Depending on how our winter meetings go we are going to plan on playing more tournaments this year but we probably won't field a full team until Reno (injuries and other obligations). To bad, i would like to see your new and improved team i've heard about as well as George and D&K.

Ron, if you get a minute e-mail the schedules you have so i can get them to the guys that make decisions on our team (JEG84103@netzero.com). This may help us decide where to go for good competition.

Take care

I find this dichotomy both perplexing and interesting at the same time. Its kinda like David and Goliath. I have had people call a ask are we canceled? Apparently a rumor got started mid week that we couldn't get enough teams. Not true. Then some managers that are only interested in getting their team qualified and need teams to play are coaxing other managers to play in Menifee. Most of you know Jerry and I. We are strait shooters. If you want to play wherever do so but let's not get wrapped up in innuendo and rumors. Personally I play in Menifee on Mondays. If I had my druthers I wouldn't. The park is very old and the infields there suck big time. The city hasn't done any maintenance in years. I and others are continually being hit by inconsistent hops. Its only a matter of time when somebody will loose teeth if they have any to start with :O) This is the primary reason we passed on Wheat Field as a venue choice in the first place. Second: there are only two lighted fields. Good luck if you have delays or a late start. Anyway we wish everyone the best at what ever they do. Stay safe... signed, David :O)

I'll do what I can but I'm one for two in the weather department for Nov and December :O) But its only been 3 rain outs in two years so far. I think I'll have to schedule tournaments with the NHRA. They have only had, I think, 2 complete rain outs in 50 years. But when they get water on the track they can get rid of it... We cant. Last year it was warm and sunny. So we shall see. It will be nice to see some new out of the area teams down here.

NHRA has the luxury of speading out the event, unfortunately you don't! I remember one Winternationals that went for 3 weekends!!! 2 in 50 years "ain't too bad." Maybe Tom Compton will loan you his track dryers(if needed), they won't need them till the end of the month!

I remember that! Don't know Tom. I did know Wally, Steve Evens and Dave McClelland. Mike Dunn was just a little kid when his dad would bring him into our shop. Linda Vaughn: Went to her wedding back in the day. Me and 300 of her best friends :O) She used to be so hot she could dry up our fields in no time. Or like Wally used to do when the crowd was board send out the Hurst Olds with Linda on it. That used to keep the crowds engaged. Maybe a Helicopter from the airport. Naw!... I'm thinking I have money like Goliath now :O)

Crusadervb, Marv, and Jerry, I guess that Marv did not state which weekend Jerry was going to contact me. No need to contact me any more. The 2 55 players that I tried to get are playing the following weekend, and did not want to play 2 weekends in a row. We will not be entering as an exhibition team now.

On the bright side of things, we are still trying to get some 60 players, but they will not all be Major Plus players. We are trying to get a Major Plus player, a Major player and a couple of AAA players to help us out, so we can get our butts out there and play. Although we will not have what I believe to be a Major Plus team for this weekend, we will still be entering as a 60 Major Plus team.

Marv, I will let you know by Sunday or Monday, if we will be able to attend. I will call you and confirm and/or email you.

Happy holidays to all!!!

Dantheman,

I would not do that to anyone anyway. If we play in Marv's tournament, not an issue. If we play in SSUSA's tournament, then I would enter as an "exhibition team", then it would not be an issue either. FYI, unless a AAA team had too many Major players on their team already, it should not be a problem to play with a AAA after playing on a Major team, unless the team they came from did not give them a release. Most likely, I will not have a team for this upcoming season. 3 of the 4 players that we got for January, said they would play for us, but since their prior teams are in the tournament, they all backed off. We will probably shelf this till after the winter and possibly till after October 2012. Sorry, but you cannot play ball with only 5 players committed.

Marv,

Thanks, I have Jerry's number now and your's. Have a nice tournament guys! BTW guys, there is sure a lot of confusion as to what teams are going to which tournament. I just received an email from a player, with the list of teams going to SSUSA, and I thought some of those teams were going to Marv's.

Hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Andy Smith,
55 Major

Andy sorry your not coming. As for a list. I have one too. But I don't count chickens so they say. Both associations have payment deadlines around the same time. That's the list that really counts. I do know this I have 5 out of state teams and two from the Bay Area on mine. But only 3 of those have paid. When I receive a "we'd like to play" they get on one list. When I get paid or some type of financial arrangement then they get on the schedule list. There is way to much posturing going on. Some from self interest I would venture to say. Too many rumors as well. For months now all I've heard is "we want diversity. We are tired of playing the same teams". Well we have worked very hard to give you your wish... the rest is up to you. All I can say is we will have a good tournament and we wish everybody a safe weekend no matter where you go. Those that show up for ours get points and great field conditions. We make every effort to give everybody the best we can. In the end that's all you can hope for.

Andy, I dont think you would do something like that, i know who you are and you seem to be a good guy, unless someone on here knows something differnt j/k, but that was what happen with the team i wanted to play with, they had enough major players, problem is I'm just an average aaa player, but because i played one tournment with a major team, i was now a major player, sucks
