What is the percentage of senior players playing tourney ball today that played 6 or more tourneys a year back in their 20's & 30's? Also, how long did you play at that pace? What percentage of Major, A, B, C players are still playing senior ball today?

20's not 6 a year, military then. Late 20's only a few per year, 30's yes, Motorcraft and a couple other teams A\B.
Back when good balls and alum bats were still a good combo and you could still reach the 300' fence.
Yes, there were 300' fenced back then, and yes too, short ones like Lodi & Stockton still have and are still used with composites. Fresno uses one for some that has 291 to left, 278 +- in the center and 252 to right. Great for left handers or ball pullers.
Now, when ever I can afford it, not often.

Major level at that pace since 76', 3 year absense for work, plus a 2 year absense for cancer. In looking at my teams in the late 70's, early 90's, 3-4 per team still playing, out of a 14-15 man roster. My 90' team still has 9 out of 12 playing. (a 10th would be also if not for health, wheel chair bound)

Play six or more since 68 with the exception of a year in Vietnam in 70, and three years (age 46-49)before starting senior play in 2000. Average 10 a year since starting Sr. Ball.

Played probably 8-13 a year in my 20s, Open and A, for probably 8 years.

Oh, for the days of 32 to sometimes 85 team brackets. Along with the 220+ team ASA "A" Cleveland Metro tourneys in the mid to late 70s.

Never played softball in my 20's. Only played baseball thought softball was a game for fat old men and women. Didn't really get into softball till mid 40's. Baseball was getting tougher to play with the young guns out there.

boston, don't forget the 9-year-old girls who were playing it too. And somehow without safety bases, two home plates, and run limits. =)

Jeff back in the day didn't it seem like we played almost every weekend? If it wasn't the old conference it was some qualifier, a local open tourney or some out of the way festival tournament. Back then I sure don't remember many weekends where I was home cutting the grass :)

taits, who are you playing with now? Heard you left the Senior Spartans.

In answer to Pricer's survey, I started playing men's softball when I was 13. I was a pitcher then (fast pitch) and have mostly been a pitcher all my career. I went to very few tournaments when I was a young man—didn't have the money for fees, travel, lodging, etc. (only gas was affordable), and I had too much going on in my life—family, church, job, charity work, etc.

Only since I've begun playing senior ball do I go to a lot of tournaments, about 16-18 a year. Wasn't a major player back then either, but play AAA or Major now.

1971. Doubleheaders 2 nights a week and tournaments every other weekend, when conditions allowed (Midwest) . No break in tourney play, but cut down on league play. Play league one night a week with my son, Studs and Duds. Grandpas, dads, sons and outlaws, I mean in-laws. Tourneys - try to play at least every 3rd week either 55 or 60 with 60 team being primary. (CA since 88)

I played about 3 or 4 seasons of D ball when I was about thirty. I only remember playing in about five tournaments. I began playing 55AAA in 2003. Not too impressive. I wish that I had begun playing much earlier.
