Miken U II vs Combat Ambush
Hello Gentlemen...
I've be swinging a UII for a couple of years now.... I'm thinking about purchasing the Combat Ambush to replace my UII. I'm 6'1" @ 255lbs and hit my share of hrs (1 per 6 at bats) per tournament.
Any feedback would be appreciated...

In truth the posts have been a bit mixed. If you are looking for more durability, perhaps worth a try. If it is just for performance, the bat really does not make the hitter.

Trevino would take his clubs and beat you with yours. He would also take your clubs and beat you with his.

I had a black Centenarian and it was a great bat.. lasted me around 300 or so swings... it spidered... looks like they fixed the spidering with a different paint.. shell is the same as the Centenarian with some modifications in tappers! my Buddy bought the Ambush and loves it. hope this helps!

I think the best advice is to try to swing one before seriously considering whether to buy one.
It may be a fabulous bat, but just doesn't seem right to you. Call Alan and see if he knows anyone in your area with them. I know guys who went from a Miken to Rebook, with same weight and balance and just said it didn't feel right and Reebok's are good bats. Durability appears at this time better with the Ambush as G19 said, but is that an issue for you? There is no 1 best bat.

Cruz: I used U-II for years. Loved them and then went with Reebok Melee Legend 2.5 years ago. To me, there is no comparison. I have not swung the Ambush. I did send an Ambush out to California and one to Tennessee. The guy in CA. told me it could not touch the Melee Legend. That is all I know and good luck in your exploration. As the others have shared, lots of opinions and good bats out there to choose from. If I can help with Reebok, please let me know. Ed A. (970) 728-3144 www.reebokmeleelegend.com

I just broke my UII and I already have a Blue Combat MM which I am quite happy with. I definitely want to have at least 2 senior bats. I'm reticent about buying another UII because of the "bad batch" stories, even though I was happy with it.

I have a real interest in the Ambush but I keep remembering all the hype about the Gates Veteran (I believe that was what it was called). To this day I've never seen anyone swing one (Gates) and there is no dialogue about them on the senior sites, for quite some time.

I suspect that because the Ambush is a Combat, it's not likely to be a flame out like the Gates. The problem becomes sorting out hype from fact, in the absence of being able to swing a bat before plunking down $200.

Feedback?

Ah, but Gary 19, Trevino and the rest of the boys used the finest-best clubs and balls that $$$$ could buy. Had they not, they/he would be long forgotten. In fact, every sport has used the best equipment that $$$ could buy throughout the history of sport. Even the gladiators in the Roman arenas and armies throughout history always invented and strived for something better. Those who cling in the past too long usually, thank God, go away. In most of history, the good old days weren't that good.

Very lame Gary, but nice try I guess...:(

Trevino "and the rest of the boys" used clubs that were approved for ALL golfers of ALL ages. Once again, a very flawed analogy but I do give you credit for being very vigilant in your attempts to make a point.

Well... Yesterday Saturday PM... I got to hit the AMBUSH with my teammate's 26EL bat... We in the ANAHEIM area it was very warm around 85+ degrees... The bat was very light for me.. But I was patience enough to wait and turn & drive the ball very well and far.... After a couple of swings, I found the sweetspot was at the end of the bat... easily putting the balls in the 325-340' range and I am highly impress with this bat... his bat at time, had over 200 BP hits.. we roughly put another 125+ hits between 3 guys... we used various Sr. balls: TRUMP STOTES, SPA BALLS, ROCK and EVIL BP balls... and this bat easily put more distance/pop and ball speed than my OG 29oz. UII.. and hit further and harder than my REEBOK 28 Bal which also had about 125+ BP hits on it...

The Ambush swings lighter than most Sr. bats, the barrel is very soft and the sound is deceptively (soft), not the loud crack sound, we are use to hearing.. so too me it is a very hot bat! I do plan on getting one maybe a 28 or a 30oz EL...

good job Alan..:)

Gary 19 your reply above is not only lame but has a huge limp.

Have you not "repeatly" said on this site that Senior Bats will take average hitters and make them big time power/batting average hitters.

Maybe I missed your point but when have any of your posts made any sense?

I just broke the yellow senior bat from Combat. I loved that bat. I was hoping when I get to Vegas to try some of the new bats out. Will there be reps with test bats at Vegas that I can try? We are playing at Cheyenne park. 50 AAA.

Well Tri, I caught two games this weekend and have to say the Ambush sounded more like a Centenarian than a gun shot.. One of my buddies put it away for his Meleee instead... I think you are a great salesmen but Ambush is what it is.. Another good senior bat along with the Melee, Centerian, and Miken.

Tri, how big of a sweet spot is really needed to square-up a large ball moving slowly?

Is it done every single time? No. But when it isn't it is the batter's fault, or maybe credit to the pitcher, and technology should not need to address that situation.

AL is correct, the Ambush is not the only good Senior bat. Yesterday at our last practice before Vegas my 26fl out performed all the other bats my mates were swingn. But I do enjoy swingn the Ambush! Aloha, Fabe

OK, out of the wrapper – not ready for game day… the bat feels good, well balanced but definitely needs a break period. I had 6 or 7 guys swing it at BP to get some break in. Sunday the bat started to wake up a bit. A couple of guys really like it on Sunday. I’m sure they will be buying one soon. For myself, I’ll make sure I have a UII on hand at all times.
Last Note: it needs about 100 or more hits then we’ll see how it compares to the UII.

LMAO @ 5 tools... We broke in Centerians last year and they started to clack about 160 swings with the trump Rocks... Same shell on the Ambush means same result.. I did like my Centenerian before it broke.. just saying that all the early hype about the Gun shot sound and every other sales pitch was just that. HYPE.. it's a good bat no doubt but you don't have to jump to a new bat if you have a great bat already!

LOL G19, Anytime you want to go to single wall aluminum and 525 52 core balls like we used in the 80s and 90s Mr 46/36, I will love to take some swings off you and see if you think we can't hit them as far as the ball and bat combo we use now.. :-)

SWING - that was the good days, then when the 97 Demarini came out, WOW. Wish the bat/ball combo was as hot today.
And what I do not miss is a new single aluminum bat was that it may only last 1 or 2 innings, especially if your buddies used it.
Sometimes only one side would bend so you could use the other side of the bat. They cost $90 to $120 which is about like $200 today.
Overall I think the composits last longer for the average player.
