Questions to ponder.....
Why do you park in a driveway and drive on a parkway?

Why are Winter Worlds not held in the winter?

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open your mouth and confirm it.
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you.
What hair color do they put on the driver’s license of a bald man?

A question to ponder.....
You mentioned that you hoped to improve the game and product enough so it becomes attractive to spend that kind of money to play tournaments again. 2608 posts later....how is that working out for you?

Joe, there is a "winter" tournament in November and I am the fool???????

tater, not at all. I overestimated my fellow middle-age guys. My bad.

Not so sure you overestimated your fellow middle-aged guys at all. A self proclaimed intellect you might be....a change agent you are not.

All I can do is present what needs to change, and why. Sort of like leading the horse to water but............

Still seeing a LOT of tiny brackets and combined brackets, so I don't see a lot of health in senior softball in the vast majority of tourneys.

But guys can spend however they choose, just like PT Barnum was counting on.

In some twisted way are you not a part of the scam and a viewer of the circus? While you do not participate in the events from a money aspect you participate in time on the board to the tune of 2610 posts. Nothing is free, isn't your time of some value? So as I see it you are a participant of the circus/scam you just don't like it in its present state but you keep coming back! You are correct guys can spend however they choose....your choice is to spend it on the board! Again, nothing is free...not even your time unless you view your time as having no value.

I might be some form of participant, but no association is profiting off of me.

And this is not a hard dollar cost to me, so I am good with it.

Don't get me wrong, any playing is a good thing. But there is a point where the return on the hard dollars, and even time, spent does not yield a satisfactory return when there are better options out there. Or at least much better from a cost/benefit perspective.

Many may think that they are getting a satisfacory return on their hard earned dollars/time just as your time spent on this board yields some satisfactory return to you obviously from an intrinsic perspective or you wouldn't keep coming back!

As you choose not to play so do I but I guess I choose to spend my time on other aspects of my life rather than on a recreational senior softball board filibustering for change that you and I both know will never return to its original state..... Just not going to happen.

To each his own!

Understood.

And yes this is time for me, but between some sparring with the clones I have met some good guys and even learned a thing or two.

All entertaining and even occasionally informative at no real cost.

At no real cost to whom?
With rare exception Gary, you come on many threads inject your redundance and in most cases highjack them.
While many of us use this board to exchange ideas, look for new equipment, friends or up coming tournaments.
You choose to take up our time by pissing and moaning about the same issues.
It is our time you are taking and for many of us that time is of value.
As for the cost/benefit issue, that isnt for you to say, in a general sense, it may apply to you but you cant speak for anyone else.
It appears by your own admission this is nothing but entertainment for you.
As for the PT Barnum reference, another of your many mundane, redundant references that are not only offensive but without merit.
Why not take your Great Intellect and try using it for something constructive instead.

I don't think I was speaking for anyone else.

"But guys can spend however they choose" I believes this says as much.

As far as the Barnum reference, it has quite a bit of merit. Just read the many complaints about tournament awards, or the lack of quality. Yet the same guys seem to keep showing up. Again, they can do what they want, but the reference has some application here.

And I have enough to go around.......:)

Oh, back to the question. Why aren't winter worlds held in the winter? Or, why aren't they called Fall Worlds?

"semantics"???

C'mon swing. Fall and Winter have been distinctly different seasons, and November has not been part of Winter for, oh I don't know, decades. Centuries?

Just like the East and West are not nations, November is not in the winter. I understand names are just names, but if that is the case then why can't accuracy ever be used by the association? When someone is constantly playing with the truth I get quite suspicious of their motives.

Sorry I incorrectly spelled a midling city in an inconsequential state.

Gary19, it's "middling" and I found Albuquerque an interesting place when I was there in the 60s. I would also be interested in playing a major tournament in New Mexico—nice climate for softball, although hearing from Webbie and others who commute from there to tournaments, it seems NM has not yet caught the softball bug and its sites and teams are limited. I would also be careful as a Michigander of dissing other states.

Omar: Northern NM has alot of guys that love softball young and old. But, the city itself hasn't done anything to improve the facilities. In Las Cruces in southern NM we play year round. I avg about 150-170 games per yr incl. tourneys for the past 8 yrs. Between seniors and USSSA mens. I had to give up coed no time.
We have a 3 nice complexes all next to each other with a total of 8 fields for slowptich and 3 fastpitch fields. We have one of the largest slowpitch and fastpitch tourneys in the country. The Whole Enchilada draws 260 USSSA mens and womens teams class C,D & E w/ a waiting list of 30 to 40 teams. The Missy Molina girls fastpitch tourney draws about 180 teams from ages 7 to 18.

I know Webbie has spoken to the city of Albuquerque leaders w/o any positive results. anyway that's just a quick background on softball in NM.

Since this thread is titled "Questions to Ponder" I have one, Why is Gary 19 so negative? Sorry man inquiring minds want to know.

Question to ponder: Why at my age I still haven't figured out, when a buddy says "Just 1 more beer" you, it's usually not 1 and you feel like crap the next day. :)

Tony, like I've said, his only reason for being here is to cut senior softball down in every way he can because he is jealous of those of us that love the game. I hope he really does consider it a middling (Gary-you have a spelling problem. For an incredible IQ like yours, you got it wrong again) city-I wouldn't want him to like it and move out here, or even visit.

Omar-we do not even have a 4 field complex with 300 ft fences, and at 5000 plus feet, the ball flies here. I have not given up, but am discouraged.

boston, that was good information. Gives me even more appreciation for New Mexico.

Webbie25, keep trying. Maybe a city council/rec department change might happen?

Omar: Albuquerque would be a great stop for a senior tourney. I go there every year for Senior Olympics plus once a mth to visit my daughters and grandkids now. They have an airport, lots of hotels, casinos and great place to eat. Not to mention the history. There is a tram that takes u to 2 awesome restaurants about 10,000 ft in the mts. It's interesting how the city is neglecting softball but put 1 million dollars into a BMX bike track.
Webbie: If I can help in any way lmk. Even if it means getting southern NM seniors and younger players to send e-mails to the mayor.

Omar-we actually got a complex on the ballot a year ago, but it lost-it got bundled with a big project and politics shot it down. I haven't given up. We really have a great place to play with great weather.

Boston: Webbie & I need all the help we can get here in Albuquerque & New Mexico. We have a senior softball community in New Mexico that sent 14 teams to the Winter Worlds. With everyone's help and input to the city/state leaders, who knows what we can build. I understand that Los Altos (great location in the middle of town) is slated to get a make over? I do know that many of the softball players here in Albuquerque would love to host a tournament here in the Land of Enchantment. Albuquerque is at an elevation of over 5,000 ft., Denver is not the only mile high city, what US State Capital is the highest? Denver is 3rd highest. The weather here is great, we would love to share with the rest of the softball community across the country, be careful you might just stay.....

Joey/Webbie; If you have some email addresses of public officials you would like me to contact send them to me or post here and I will see to it they get to the seniors from southern NM and El Paso. We have 18 teams in our league and a couple others in Silver City that do not play in our league. Should be close to 300 players that could send out e-mails.
