MICHAEL BOONE TO BECOME MID-ATLANTIC REGION DIRECTOR
Feb. 1, 2010 – Steve Simmons New England & North Regional Director, Clubs & Leagues
NASHVILLE, TENN. – Michael Boone who already serves as a SSUSA national director will head the newly established SSUSA Mid-Atlantic region up.Boone, who resides in New Jersey, is the player / manager for the Sweet Construction 50-&-over Major senior softball team. He has been involved with senior softball in the New Jersey area for years and was the driving force behind getting the Atlantic Coast Championships (Loudon County, VA) and the Northeast Championships (Cape May, NJ) established on the East Coast. Both tournaments are SSWC regional events, which qualify teams for the SSWC Tournament of Champions.
It was Boone’s quiet, but firm, insistence that the SSUSA take a closer look at putting on more tournaments on the East Coast, and not just more tournaments but more prestigious tournaments that ultimately led to his appointment.
The formation of the Mid-Atlantic region was announced at the SSUSA / ISA national convention here in December. Steve Simmons, SSUSA Clubs & Leagues national director, had Boone in mind when he recommended the division of the former East region into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic divisions.
Fortunately Boone accepted the appointment and immediately asked for changes based on his senior softball awareness of the area. Boone recommended that eastern Pennsylvania be under the jurisdiction of the Mid-Atlantic region while western Pennsylvania, specifically the Pittsburgh metropolitan area which is adjacent to the Ohio border, be under the jurisdiction of the Great Lakes region. These changes have been made on the clubs & leagues organization chart and should ultimately pay dividends as the SSUSA continues to assign area directors.
