PELHAM JOINS UP WITH SSUSA
Feb. 1, 2010 – Steve Simmons New England & North Regional Director, Clubs & Leagues
PELHAM, ALA. – The Southeast region is the area of this country that is least familiar with the SSUSA’s Clubs & Leagues program. The Southeast region takes in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky.Last year there was only one league, the Cherokee Senior Softball Association’s National League of Woodstock, GA, that utilized the SSUSA insurance package.
This year the CSSA’s National League won’t feel so lonely. They will be joined by the Pelham Alabama Senior Softball Association who just recently partnered with the SSUSA and agreed to use SSUSA’s league insurance plan. Pelham is situated due south of Birmingham just off of Interstate 65.
Russ Arthur, Pelham league commissioner, began inquiries regarding SSUSA’s insurance policy back in October. He said, “I was reading the Senior Softball News and noticed that it is possible to be SSUSA affiliated and insured without changing our few special senior rules.”
This has been an attractive feature of the SSUSA insurance plan. Leagues do not have to change their own distinctive way of playing the game just to comply with SSUSA. The SSUSA prides itself on offering insurance and still allowing leagues to play the game the way they want to play.
The Pelham Alabama Senior Softball Association consists of two leagues. One is on Tuesday night with four teams ages 50 and up and it is quite competitive with an emphasis on sportsmanship, recreation and fellowship. The other is on Thursday mornings made up of four teams ages 49 through 83 (two players will turn 83 during the summer of 2010). This league is much less competitive with an emphasis on camaraderie, fellowship and recreation.
