USA TEAM WINS 20TH ANNIVERSARY GERMAN TOURNEY

Sept. 1, 2012

FRANKFURT, GERMANY – The Senior Softball USA team topped five German teams to win a special 20th Anniversary tournament here in June.

The USA team exploded in the championship game, beating the much younger Frankfurt baseball team 22-13 to win the title.

The event was sponsored by the Dreieich Vultures, who sent a special invitation to Senior Softball-USA players to help them celebrate their 20th anniversary with a tournament on June 23-24.

Dreieich (near Frankfurt) has deep ties with Senior Softball in the United States. They have been sending teams to America to the SSUSA World Championships since 1999 and they have sponsored International Tournaments near Frankfurt twice with Senior Softball-USA.

The German team will be competing at the 2012 World Masters Championships in Las Vegas this fall.

The 20th Anniversary tournament near Frankfurt capped a week-long trip to Germany that included a trip up the Rhine River, a visit to the medieval walled city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and a banquet with the other tournament teams featuring German fare.

“Winning the tournament was, of course, one of the highlights of the trip,” said Terry Hennessy, SSUSA’s CEO and manager of the team. “but the Dreiech club made us feel like family – and it was great to see players we have competed against for more than a decade in international competition.”

The MVP of the tournament for the USA team was Dan Minnick of California. Best Offense (batting .952) was Bobby Davis of Florida, and Best Defense was Kiko Guiterrez of New Mexico.
